DEPENDS on your philosophy . VEGAN NO!

UGG boots are made of sheepskin and lined with Australian wool. Since animals cannot live without their skin, sheepskin and other types of leather are byproducts of slaughter, and most vegetarians (and all vegans) choose not to wear it. Many vegetarians (and all vegans) also choose to avoid Australian wool, as many wool producers practiced mulesing--the shearing of wool AND skin. It should be noted that mulesing remains legal because it prevents flystrike, which is when flies infest the folds of skin on shorn sheep and cause painful infection and possibly even death.

Long answer short: It is your choice what you wear, but if you want cruelty-free shoes, UGGs are not the way to go. There are plenty of synthetic options available, and probably on sale for the season.

Unlike what someone else said, sheep are not nicely sheared. Wool is also cruel. The reason? Sheep's wool is thickest in the coldest part of winter, so many sheep are sheared in the dead of winter. This leads them to die from freezing to death. Many sheep are also gouged deeply by the shears, which gets infected or causes them to lose enough blood that they die.

Sounds real humane, right? Just stick to the cotton and synthetic stuff.

EDIT
What about leather? Leather is cow skin. I assure you, they KILL the cow before they skin it...that's hardly vegetarian or vegan friendly.
Why not, you know, just buy synthetic? Is a status symbol more important to you? You're willing to ask a creature to die for your petty vanity?

@Sorry Hannibal the cannabal - my dear friend you are not right on that one, certainly in Scotland a place known for its hill farming. Actually a sheep left with its wool on will develope into what we call a double fleacer, it will grow layers and layers every season and it will not shed it only the out layer after a while.

These double fleasers develop momntum problems and get stuck and drown in small burn crossings!! They are heard animals so when the group continue the double fleecer would chance anything just to get to the safety of the group!! We shear them in the hight of summer and the ones that come in late will not get a close shear and will be left with suffichant wool to keep them warm. As for cuts yes they will get cut at times but they get treated, why would a farmer jerpadise their livelihood, every sheep is important. Also shearing exposes problems like maggots and then we can treat it accordingly. Maggots will slowly eat the sheep and it is a slow and agonizing death!! To the farming and crofting community where I live a double fleecer actually is seen as bad practice and a person who does not look after their stalk properly!!

As for fake products and ones that are chemically produced how do they do any good, they pollute making them and certainly pollute when disposed off!! All I hear is how much people love animals but they do very little and it seems more of a selfish act than one for any animals!!

I am not saying go and buy fur, far from it I am against fashion and all it stands for that for someone to accept us we have to look more eye pleasing than all round naturally pleasing!! Fur is a natural survival clothing how else would the Eskimo and the Siberian nomads survive!! As sheep are plenty and are culled anyway why not buy it but then I would go further to find out about the company, where do they get their product, is it a well looked after place with good practice?? If not find a company that hand makes them and can assure that much as been done to assure good practice toward the animals. You can not stop meat production but you do have a choice, I hate waste and I feel that if you kill something for one part it is unethical! Native tribes used every part of their kill, they where nature people that respected all that lived in it they did not even had a word for owning something!!

Why would you not buy animal products but its OK to drive, take public transport, have gas, coal or nuclear heating/electric and work for a company that does not have good practices like recycling or energy saving??!!?? It is our growing population as a whole that is decontaminating the world, why can't people see that. Vegetarians/vegans have children and they add to the demand!!

EDIT

The animal would be culled for the meat then someone would buy the skins to make what ever!! I hate mass produce companies and they will only move to other country's that will have bad animal raising which means the company's will be able to get away with anything and increase their stalk!!

People want cheap and ignore home grown and produced stuff because they would be too expensive. At least small and home grown companies would be easier to research and have to follow welfare standards for both animal and human!!

Um, yes, Uggs are made from sheep killed for their skins. Actually, they're killed for their meat, but no, you can't get boots made from a sheep that has had just a little skin taken off. It doesn't work that way.

There are synthetic versions of this style of boot--probably not quite as warm, but WOOL lining is almost as good, and wool does not hurt the sheep--they shed it in the spring anyway.

"i mean do they actually have to KILL them to get the skin off or what?"

I would hope so. You wouldn't enjoy having your skin taken off while you're still alive, would you? If they're not dead, I would imagine the sheep would be in a great deal of pain while having their skin removed, and I imagine they'd die either of trauma or blood loss.

That said, there are vegetarian alternatives to suede and leather. Check around. Alternative Outfitters sells vegan boots, among many other companies.

yes the sheep is killed to skin it, unfortunately last year i bought emu's with my own hard earned money for 120$ so this year i've continued wearing them because im 14; im not wasting 120$ for something i bought before i became a vegetarian ! If you already have the boots, you can choose to keep wearing them or to give them away.

Yes they're made from sheepskin

I don't want to frighten you, but if you really want to see what they do to make uggs... go ahead and search. I can guarantee it's not going to be pretty..

Some 'false' uggs may be vegan however they may be made from suede, which is not vegan..

Leather is not vegan either..

No, they're certainly NOT suitable for veg*ns.

They're made from sheepskin and leather. How do you think they get the skin? Of course they have to be killed! (Well, one would hope they're dead when their skins are removed..)

Here are some vegan alternatives:

Of course they are killed for their skin, without their skin they would just be bones and blood. It is like leather and it is DIFFERENT from sheep's wool. Could you survive without your skin?
But some vegetarian ones are here: http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/womens…

i'm not stupid

The truth of the matter is it is easier to skin an animal dead than alive. They kinda quit wiggling when dead. UGGS are made of sheep skin, ie dead sheep. So in answer to your question they are not vegetarian, or vegan.

Since when were uggs edible.
they have sheep skin, animals were killed for the skin, same with leather.

No, they are not.

Vegan

No I don't think you have to kill the sheep in order to get the fur. They just shave out part of their skin and then put it in the uggs. Did that help? :P

To be honest, I'd love to know myself :/

My Love for warm cosy feet that feel nice and look nice ^-^

you dont eat uggs idiot

who cares???
