?YOU didn't state your reason for wanting to be a Vegetarian? Read the book "Diet for a Small Planet" and see if that is a plan you would like to follow.
With the amount of "fake meat" products there are today, its easy to become vegetarian. I'm assuming you live in North America, and if you do, society is very open to vegetarianism. It's a lot harder in Europe and other parts of the world. If you've become vegetarian long enough, eating meat just becomes unpleasant and you won't like it as much anymore.
For vegan-ism, it is much much harder! Milk and eggs are included in many, many ingredients and society doesn't cater as well to vegans as it does to vegetarians.
My tip to you would be to work gradually. Either reduce meat consumption by days (meatless wednesdays or fridays, then increasing) or maybe by kinds of meat (first beef, then chicken, then fish, etc)
I'm not a full-time vegan, but I am vegan for about 25% of the year. I do it during Lent and Advent and other times of the year because I'm christian and I try to sacrifice something that I really like. Why do you plan on making the switch? Religious reasons? Environmental? Animal rights?
Good luck! :)
My own experiences
Read up as much as possible on the horrors of slaughterhouses. Read this article:

Look up mechanically separated chicken (that will gross you out of McNuggets, ha).
Give it up slowly, one at a time. First red meat, then pork, then chicken, then fish. I went in exactly that order, however I skipped red meat because I never really liked it.
It just takes a lot of perseverance, really. When you have meat around you, just think about slaughterhouses and cruelty, or if it helps, just sticking to your commitment.
It is nice to have a family member or friend supporting you, if not somebody going vegetarian alongside you.
Morningstar makes great Chik'n nuggets and Chik'n patties (I covered mine in hot sauce) that I used to help myself to stop eating chicken.
Vegan.
It wasn't really that difficult for me to become a vegetarian.
Maybe some of these tips can help you(motivation)
-They treat animals in an in-humane when they kill them.In a very disgusting way (look at "meet your meat" & "if slaughter houses had invisible walls")
-Its not that healthy to eat burgers and such which is obvious
-Animals should not die for nothing, i mean we can survive without meat.Vegetarians live longer than meat-eaters auctually.
-Just think, your saving over 15,000+ animals lives without eating them a year.
-Animals are not ment to live in small cold metal cages while waiting in line to be slaughtered.
(These are true facts btw)
It's called commitment. Using meat substitutes may be helpful to you, but I would recommend you explore the thousands of natural foods options available (no consistent source of protein, that cracked me up) because many of the fake meats are not that healthy-it's been proven that a lot of soy is not great and most of them are high in sodium. After you become used to the many wonderful flavors and textures available from plant foods, you won't miss meat. There is a reason why we add so much seasoning to meat-it's fairly bland tasting otherwise. You have ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, etc. on your burger, right? The chicken is either fried with 11 herbs and spices or covered with barbeque or wing sauce. If you tried a hamburger patty with nothing, not even salt, you would be amazed.
All the flavors you enjoy on your meat can be easily incorporated into vegetarian dishes. Our culture has tried to shunt vegetables and grains aside as mushy, flavorless sidekicks to an extent that many people don't even know what they taste like properly cooked. Give them a try and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
After I discovered where the meat comes from and how it's processed, I was truly grossed out and quit overnight. It you can stomach a video, try looking one up on youtube about meat production. It's pretty gross.
Morning Star and Boca products are very good, you could use those to replace your meats. They are basically fake meat, made from soy and vegetables. My mom eats meat and said the chicken nuggets taste nearly identical to real ones.
i just eat faux chicken and burgers. morning star makes the best stuff! hope i helped (: most of their products are sold everywhere, I eat them alot. for me it wasnt hard. but my friend, who did it with me, had a hard time at first. Its all about self control. and the will to accomplish being a vegetarian! hope i helped (: (:
been a veg for a long time!
You can definitely do it. I agree with the people who say that eating fake meats might help. You may have some minor backslidings but don't discouraged in the end it will finally click.
Why would you want to become a vegetarian, its a proven fact that vegetarians are a lot weaker than others as they have no consistent source of protein.
If you really really really like chicken and burgers, maybe you shouldn't become a vegetarian :|
It is not natural to be a vegetarian/vegan. We have pointy teeth for eating meat. You should eat meat.
Don't it screws up your life. There is a reason why my sister is short, weak, and fragile. It ruined her life.
