If this is giving you "Fits", then you aren't going to last long at this lifestyle. I know too many people that start this Vegetarian thing and due to health reasons (really!) had to stop or could not take it any longer. If you went into this as a TRUE lifestyle change, eating Tofu is the easiest part. Sorry but a fact of life and like I said I have plenty of people that I know who are into this lifestyle change whole heartedly. I'm not one for this lifestyle and never will be, but I do support my friends who are, and very respectful of their beliefs. I even know a few Vegans! When I visit them, I make sure that I have ZERO animal products on me other than what's in my car. Good luck and hope you find an answer.
I'm not sure what to make of this. Tofu is useful because it's so bland that it can be mixed into almost any dish and serve as a source of protein. You don't have to eat tofu to be a vegetarian, though. My nephew was very suspicious of it until I described it as soy cheese; he thought that that was okay, especially on pizza.
i dont see tofu as being gross or dirty at all. Plus, it tastes like whatever you cook it with. I just ate buffalo tofu with blue cheese and celery for lunch and it was so satisfying.
Why does it bother you when its "in there"? What about it makes you view it as yucky or dirty?
You cant just use veggies instead of tofu. You need protein. Eat lots of beans and nuts. How do you feel about the frozen fake meats? Like the meatless chicken nuggets and chicken sandwiches?
I never got over it, and im vegetarian. dont like the taste, smell, texture, its just weird to me. I do like the pretend meat though, like morningstar products. Dont worry about it, you're not alone. and if you are new to being vegetarian its always important to make sure you have a complete diet and are getting all the protein and other nutrients your body needs.
As already said you don't have to eat tofu if you don't like it.
There is lentils and beans you can eat for protein, if you look into it you will find that is quite a lot of different beans and different colours of lentils.
If you don't like tofu, then don't eat it. You can get your protein from other sources like beans, nuts, dairy products and eggs.
You don't have to eat tofu if you don't like it.
Try deep frying the tofu. (this is where you roll the tofu in flour and spices, then submerse it into oil, I like peanut oil, until it browns) I like fried tofu, but don't like tofu cooked other ways.
Another thing I do is eat a lot of seitan. (wheat glutten)... beans, and cheese. All of which are good sources of protein.
At many Japanese restaurants, wheat glutten is called "mock duck." I think this is pretty accurate in describing it's taste.
just eat vegetables. you don't need meat in your diet even if it is good for you.
