█ Depends what you mean by protein █

I assume you mean taking protein in the form of a protein supplement, like protein shake or bar.

I have no idea how people equate protein shakes to fat loss or muscle gain. It doesn't work that way. Protein, carbs, and fat work with you. If you're eating right and exercising, protein supplements can help maintain a good weight and repair muscle tissue, but even then you don't NEED the shakes.

You always NEED a sound diet plan, though.

If you're asking what will happen if you don't take a supplement, the answer is nothing. I've been a vegetarian for thirteen years, and except for maybe two weeks when I was seven (when I found out my mom's protein powder made a great strawberry ice cream topping) I've never supplemented my diet. So long as you eat a balanced diet and don't have any medical conditions, getting all your protein from veg*n sources should be easy.

If you're asking what will happen if you stop eating protein, period, the answer is nothing good. There are six vital nutrients: water, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, lipids (aka fats), and protein. Crash dieting phases have encouraged people to cut out either carbs or fats for quick and easy weight loss, and it's making them very sick. I'm not sure why you'd cut out protein, but to do so would cause some major health issues.

When your body doesn't get enough protein, it starts to eat away at your lean muscle.
However, this is assuming you mean take protein from your diet. If you mean protein supplements, then your body will probably have to adjust, resulting in a loss of muscle, etc. There are lots of ways to get protein naturally though; beans, nuts, etc.
Good luck! :)

If you consume no protein at all, or if you stop taking a protein supplement? There's a difference. In the first case, you'll die at some point. Please talk with a Registered Dietitian about your diet for accurate answers.

Short answer: You'll die.
