what alcohol can you drink being a veggie?!

Question: What alcohol can you drink being a veggie?
i've been thinking about becoming a veggie for sometime now. My partner is against it, so finding it hard to adjust. can anyone help me as im unsure what food and dinks i can have

Answers:

Some wines contain gelatin (which is made from pig, cow and horse bones in case you didn't know) you can find vegetarian wine in most supermarkets. Just look for a 'suitable for vegetarians' thinggy on the back of the bottle. I found a website with different veggie and vegan drinks on it for you: http://www.veggiewines.co.uk/

I am aware that some ciders are veggie too. Just always remember to look for the 'V' on the back or check the ingredients. It may take time at the start but it will get easier

I have been a veggie for over a year now and i have found that i am a better person all around :)

Most wine and a lot of beer uses finings in the brewing process, which is derived from fish. This is the main gotcha. Other than that, you're mostly ok.

Yeast is fine, even for vegans - it's akin to eating mushrooms.

To be honest though, I wouldn't sweat it. Being vegetarian isn't an all-or-nothing option, there's nothing to stop you doing it gradually. Give up red meat, give it six months, and if you're happy consider white meat / fish. Or, don't, if you don't want to. I really wouldn't be worrying about trace ingredients in things to start with, there are, ah, bigger fish to fry first.

this all depends on whether you plan on going vegetarian or going vegan- they are very different. if you are going to eat eggs and milk products, all alcohol is fine. Vegan however restricts you from more food and lots of alcoholic drinks.

Food products usually have a big green V , or just read the contents list on the side of the packet.

Drink should be OK , you could always contact the company , but beware some biscuits and pastry have animal fats in them.

If you go vegetarian, you will want to avoid all flesh foods, gelatin, and cheese made with rennet. Fish and seafood are not vegetarian.

For vegan booze (the site does not have just plain vegetarian options), check out www.barnivore.com.

Some liquors, beers, and wines use animal products in the refining process. http://barnivore.com is an excellent site to determine whether your favorite alcoholic drinks are veg'n or not.

Most alcoholic drink is made from yeast. Yeast is a living organism. Bread too is made from yeast, so if you think it's okay to eat bread, then drinks are fine!

I am unaware of any alcohol made from Cows, Sheep or Pigs, so you should be safe with any booze
