Questions about Celery..?!

Question: Questions about Celery..?
So, I was grabbing some celery this morning, and the bag said 15 calories. I thought that celery had negative 2 calories. Can someone clarify?

Also, what are other foods with negative calories?

Negative calories means it burns up more digesting it than the food has in it. Pickles is another veggie with "negative calories".

"Calories" is a measurement the amount of energy contained in a food. You can't have less energy than 'none at all'.

The 'negative calories' idea is the theory that some foods take more energy to digest than they actually contain. So if something has 15 calories in it and it takes 17 calories to digest, that would be your -2 calories. The label would still say 15 calories, however, and there's a good reason for this.

That reason is, it's probably nonsense. There's no proof that this is the case outside of the realms of self-proclaimed "experts" trying to get rich on a theory they've just made up. If it were true, food companies would be lining up to label their foods with "NET CALORIES" labels showing how healthy their food is. They aren't, because they can't, because it's fiction.

As an aside, at 15 calories per bag, it's only slightly more fattening than air. You've probably burned off more than 15 calories worrying about it. If you're dieting, you'd be far better off staying away from catering packs of Ben & Jerry's and pound slabs of Dairy Milk than fretting about what's in a stick of celery. (-:

Every vegetable/fruit has calories in it. Even celery. But since celery is so crunchy it actually takes calories away from your body as it's digesting it.
But on the package, it doesn't include the calories that are burned while your eating the celery. Yes, it does have negative calories.

All food contains calories. Negative calories are some nonsense made up by a self-appointed nutritional guru who reckons some food contains fewer calories than those used up by eating it. If you have some nutritional information that mentions negative calories, ignore it.

'Negative Calories' don't exist, each food has calories.

Just eat everything in moderation, and do plenty of exercise, and you don't need to worry about counting calories.

i saw a on tv a few years ago that to eat and digest a stick of celery burns up 40 calories hope this is of use to you

When foods tell you how many calories are in them they do not subtract the number it takes to digest them, they just give the number it contains as a whole.

Celery still has natural sugars in it.

There are no negative calorie foods. The catabolic diet is a myth.

celery uses up all the calories during digestion, so munch away.
