is eating organic food really healthier?!

Question: Is eating organic food really healthier?
I don't really think makes much of a difference. I could honestly care less, and I think organic food is just some bull$hit.
My parents think otherwise. My dad got all crazy when he found out that non-organic food has a lot of chemicals in it so he pretty much banned all non-organic food from our house. He makes my mom shop at Whole Foods now. Well mostly just for fruits and vegetables.
The thing is that organic food is very expensive and I don't think it's worth it you know?
I mean my parents aren't even doing it for the environment (like that would help anyway) but they're just doing it for their own health.
Also I hate being the type of person who shops at Whole Foods. It just makes me feel bad because a lot of people can't even afford organic food. Which is why I also despise a lot of vegetarians. I hate that people get so picky about our food....I mean if you can afford it I guess, but still...it sucks.
When you think about it, EVERYTHING has chemicals in it. There's really no way to avoid it. Especially since we live in L.A. Comeon. The air we breathe is pretty much all chemicals, everything....I think eating organic food is pointless.
I still eat regular food, but whenever I eat something my mom made it's organic. I don't mind though because most organic food tastes the same as non-organic.
So what do you think? Is it worth it? Does eating organic food really make a difference?

Also if it is supposedly "healthier" then why isn't it affordable? How come the non-healthy stuff is cheap? Survival of the fittest?

okay well lets get something straight. the difference between organic foods and artificial is just that one is grown/bred/produced so that it stays riper for longer periods. The chemicals that are grown with it has no knowwnn threat to us, otherwise they would stop making it this way. organic foods is more expensive because they want to make you believe that your buying the best product. the chemicals used to fertilize artificial foods gets absorbed by the plant and recycled through its system. Just like all things go through systems in your body, like you have an entirely new skeleton by the time you die. So it is arguable if organic foods are healthier for you because it might be possible that the chemicals are bad for you...and it just might be that the chemicals are not recycled. but that is up to you to decide.

Yes, it's better for you. It has more nutrients and no harmful chemicals and hormones. It is more expensive because the yeild per acre is less. Organic farms tend to be smaller, labor intensive operations compared to large agribusinesses.

Hello

I think all the chemicals have affected your attitude. You should be grateful that you have such caring parents with regards to organic food.

yes!

Lets compare normal products from supermarket to organic food in health shops in Australia.
I went to www.a1organics.com.au website and found organic retailer just around the corner.
So I purchased potato, eggs, chicken, and few beef stakes from organic shop in Bentleigh, and same products in normal supermarket.

The prices in organic store are higher, but only for a dollar or two, depend on the product.

Potato from supermarket, all round and even and looks like we think potato looks like, but potato from organic retailer in Melbourne, looks totally different, its not even and extremely hard to clean, but once it’s cooked it taste so much better that potato i purchased from supermarket. Eggs - are different colour, eggs i purchased from supermarket looks like it has been made of plastic, Organic eggs looks natural and taste better, Chicken from super market and organic shop taste the same, i could not taste the difference, beef stake from organic butcher is the most beautiful stake i ever tried, so Try it for your self and you will buy more healthy organic food. remember we are - what we eat.

Hi,
It has to be healthier because of the lack of chemicals and pesticides etc. Organic food is better for you and does taste better.

I was raised on organic, then later on lived on processed foods but am now back onto organic food. The high cost of organic food will eventually drop as more people take up the option.

Hope that this has helped.

I just have to say - you crack me up. I could have written your same question! I completely agree with all of it - from not tasting a difference in the food, to be offended by how much it costs and how lower-income people get shut out from buying supposedly healthy food, to not really believing that we can be chemical free (I live in LA too). All that. So, I guess I'm not really in a position to give you a non-biased answer ;D

Organic food produced without the use of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, hormones and antibiotics is not only environmentally friendly but also beneficial to your health. Organic food has the following advantages over non organic foods:

* It tastes good and prevents one from consuming toxins and chemicals.
* Researches prove that the organic food contains 10 to 15% more phyto nutrients than non-organic food.
* It can minimize the risk of a number of health problems.
* Organic fruits and vegetables contain higher amounts of antioxidants.
* Organic dairy does not use growth hormones to raise farm animals.
* Raw organic food can provide the best health improving remedy.
* Organic pet food contains healthy ingredients.
* Organic apple cider vinegar is beneficial in relieving heartburn and other digestive problems.

So, I prefer organic foods for my healthy lifestyle.

Yes, organic food is much healthier. Non organic food has chemicals in it that, for example, make a cow produce more milk faster, which is why it sells cheaper. The horomones they give to the cows ends up in your milk, which speeds up puberty, and that isn't good. Surprisingly, Publix and Harris Teeter sell quality organic food for less. You just have to sift through the other junk. Healthier food= healthier person= save money on doctors= happy parents= live longer
Hope i helped :)
