Freezer turned off while away, should I throw out meat?!

Question: Freezer turned off while away, should I throw out meat?
So I left my apartment for Thanksgiving to visit home, not realizing that the fridge/freezer had lost power. I had already emptied my fridge of perishables before leaving but I had freezer FULL of meat. I was gone for a week know the freezer was out for quite a while but as my roommate and I were gone we don't know when it turned off. The heat in the apartment was turned off all week, and it's been cold. I threw out all the ice cream in the freezer because that had completely defrosted. Yet upon opening the freezer all the meat was thawed, but there was no accompanying "rotten" smell, the freezer had no noticeable smell at all, and the meat appeared visually to be fine and relatively odorless. As of now, everything has been refrozen, but should I still throw out my meat????

Yes throw it out for sure. If you have household insurance go for a claim

Meat cannot safely be refrozen. You might get lucky and not get sick from eating it, but to be safe, you should throw it away. Also, if you aren't a troll and don't wish to be mistaken for one, I would suggest paying more attention to which category you ask your questions in.

hmmm thats tough. I'd probably throw it out because I can't handle possibly rotting things but that is a lot of meat to throw out so I would suggest inspecting and sniffing it if you don't want to waste all the meat. not an expert on this, just opinion. good luck!

Hello

Its a sign for you to become vegetarian/vegan, the message from your freezer and the message that accidentally guided you to post on the vegetarian/vegan section.

why risk it ,, if it was completely thawed for a number of days i would question it and most likely throw it out . if you have renters insurance that may pay for the loss depending on your deductable .

I know it's heart breaking and you see dollar signs when you look at the meat but I would throw it away. It's better to be safe than sorry . You might get really sick and your health is more important.

If the meat had already thawed, I think it would be best to throw it out. It's a shame to see it go to waste, but it's better safe than sorry. Sorry for your bad luck. :(

The thrifty housewife in me says it's probably still good--the food-service expert says, "When in doubt, throw it out."

Throw it out, bad meat can cause parasites and other serious even deadly diseases.

yes it needs to be thrown out. don't risk eating it and getting food poisoning.
