How did your parents react when you told them you were going to become vegetarian?!

Question: How did your parents react when you told them you were going to become vegetarian?
I know some parents freak out when their kids want to become vegetarian while others are totally cool about it. My mom freaked out and tried to talk me out of it since it was "unhealthy." My dad just couldn't care less, so how did your parents react?

My parents don't mind, but my Grandmother hates it.

She said "What would we do with all those animals if we never ate them? Vegetarianism doesn't make sense." lol... I'm not going to argue with an 89 year old woman! :)

I eat a vegetarian/ often vegan diet and I honestly don't think it's that healthy though. My hair started falling out majorly until I added protein shakes to my diet. I think vegetarian is more healthy than vegan, but health isn't my main reason for following this diet.

I became one after watching the documentary "Earthlings" and I came out of my room bawling. My mom is all concerned and asks whats wrong and I told her and she said," But honey some animals are just meant to be eaten." And I'm like "No mom! They're not!" And I made her watch the movie, and she started crying and shut it off half way and became a vegetarian with me. My sister is going into RCMP training and can't really become a vegetarian as she is going to have to eat whatever they give her, but she is an avid animal lover. My dad said," I don't agree with it at all sweetheart. I just kind of a turn a blind eye to it." And he totally supported me. My friends have also supported me for the most part, a few made a couple of mean comments but mostly they were accepting.

My mom was kind of stunned a little bit, but she soon saw the benefits and she is thinking about becoming one herself. However, my grandma thinks I'm going to die or fall ill from protein deficiency. I already explained to her vegetarian get plenty of protein as long as we have a balanced diet. She really wants me to eat meat, but it's never happening.

My parents flipped. They tried convincing me to eat meat again, and the day the found out me and my mum had a three hour fight about it.
And everyone I meet is surprised that I am one. They say "you're a farmer, you HAVE to eat meat".
it used to bother me, but if you just brush it off your shoulder they'll eventually cool down.(:

Both of my parents are fine with it, my mother is mostly vegetarian too (occasional fish and chicken)

Except my dad (a big meat eater) jokingly offers me meat and it annoys me a lot.....

My mother thought I was crazy...she still sort of does. However, after enduring family ridicule for a couple years it now has simmered and accepted. They still think I am crazy and tease at Thanksgiving Dinner, but otherwise everything has calmed.

Mom said "Have you ever seen a vegetarian hillbilly and how bad they look? Do you wanna look like that" stepdad said "you're a human. And you're at the top of the food chain no matter what you do."

my dad called me evil and a lesbian and my mom told us that this family doesn't do that. then we fought on and off for like a month. now they just kinda accept it.

My parents didn't really react very much. I was in my 20s, so it really didn't effect them.

I was five, so they just thought it was a phase and humored me.

My mom made me quit :/
