What are some healthy (but tasty) alternatives to icing for cupcakes?!

Question: What are some healthy (but tasty) alternatives to icing for cupcakes?
I want to make cupcakes but all the sugar from the icing gives me headache. I'd like some ideas for something, maybe made made from fruit or something, to ice fluffy white vegan cupcakes.

Tofutti cream cheese, add sugar (or agave nectar), lemon & nut extract to taste.

Using all-fruit jam to spread on top is delicious! Fresh fruit is also a good idea but it will be harder to stick without the frosting. You could use maple sugar to make the frosting. I think it would help with the headaches because it is made entirely from maple syrup. You'll have to put it in a food processor first though because they are not as fine as powdered sugar granules. If you do this, you'll probably want to use some maple sugar & some maple syrup. You can also buy soymilk powder (yeah, I know its sort of a weird ingredient but you can find it at health stores) & use agave, salt, cocoa powder, vanilla, & earth balance. I've only ever made it without the soymilk powder simply because I couldn't find it & I used unsweetened peanut butter instead. It was soo yummy! Spreading just peanut butter over the cupcakes is a great idea also! & you could ever sprinkle some grain-sweetened chocolate chips on top too! Yum! (:

I put peanut butter on cupcakes. I really like it, but if you're not a fan, or if you want something sweeter, jam/jelly/preserves works nicely as well. I'd suggest raspberry. I also recently discovered that you can make a magnificent whipped topping using coconut milk. You can add as little or as much powdered sugar as you like. Hello

Solid Coconut Oil, Peanut Butter, Cocoa Powder, Vanilla Flavouring or Orange Flavouring & Agave Syrup - its delicious, especially when strawberries are coated in it and put into the freezer for around 20 minutes, it does hard like a vegan chocolate fudge.

sorry, i wouldn't know , but your vegan cupcakes sound yummy! i've been trying a while to find a vegan cupcake/cake recipe that is good but i can't! can you give it to me please!
and good luck!!! :D

You can use Cream Cheese and add a Truvia to it. I know when my Sister makes Cupcakes and Brownies, the sugar from it gives me Headaches. I've been there.

What about some thick unsweetened Greek yogurt? You could even whip in some strawberries or raspberries (or any other fruit) and either dollop a little on top or cut the cupcake in middle and sandwich the dollop in the center. Yummo!

You may able to use cream and add cheese into it to provide more flavor without worried about the sugar.

Have you tried a sugar substitute like Splenda?

Honey is not vegan, BTW.

I say smear honey on them and sprinkle crushed nuts (your choice) on them.
