The remains of how many chickens are in a can of food for cats?!

Question: The remains of how many chickens are in a can of food for cats?
I have been feeding cats and dogs from my neighborhood, but a few nights ago my husband told me that I'm hypocrite being a vegetarian while feeding cats and dogs. He said that a can of cats food has remains from more than one chicken. What do you know about this?

Answers:

It would be hard to tell - but to be quite honest, there would be more than just chicken in there.. I would say there would be numerous 'left over' bits from various animals - people don't care what goes into pet food.
There could be one chicken's skin, another chicken's toe nails, another chicken's neck skin, another chicken's back fat.. You just can't tell. There could be 'bits' from up to 50 different chickens..

This question is not something we can answer. If you would like a better idea of how much chicken is in a can of cat food, I suggest contacting the manufacturer of that cat food. There is simply too much variation - one cat food might be 1% meat and the next might be 75%.

As far as the remains of how many chickens? That is also not really answerable. Cat food is generally made with chicken by-products which means it is the leftovers from meat processing. One meat processing plant processes thousands of chickens in a day. Therefore, one can of cat food might contain minute amounts of byproducts from thousands of chickens.

Cats are carnivores. You can't give a cat a vegetarian diet, it's arguably cruel. There's various essential amino acids and nutrients they can't get any other way. Plants make them hurl.

It's not hypocritical, it's nature. If it really bothers you, don't have cats. Dunno about dogs, someone else will have to field that.

Hello

You are not being a hypocrite, you are giving the animals what they are used to and what they need. What a good soul you are.
