Is peanut butter okay for vegans?!

Question: Is peanut butter okay for vegans?
I just became a vegan and I'm still unsure about what I can and can't eat. Can you eat peanut butter as a vegan?

Answers:

Hi, different brands of peanut butter use different ingredients.
Many are suitable for vegans, in fact you can get ones made from 100% peanuts, however there are some which use dairy butter so it's necessary to read the label carefully.

Vegan

Most peanut butter products are ok for vegans because they're usually made from peanuts, oils (peanut or vegetable), sugar and salt.

If you have any doubts though just check the ingredients! If it says it has butter then it's non-vegan. Or, just make your own peanut butter! :) It's fun to make and tastes better than store bought.

Enjoy

Ingredients of Peanut Butter

I've just looked at the ingredients on a UK (Sun-Pat) and a US (Jif) jar I have here.

The UK one lists cane sugar as an ingredient. Some vegans have an issue with sugar due to bone charcoal sometimes being used in the refining process; I believe it's something like 50:50 in the US, though I confess I don't know a huge amount about this. I guess it would boil down to how strict a vegan you're going to be as to whether this would bother you.

The US jar lists the nommy-sounding "Diglycerides" as an ingredient. I didn't know what this was, so I looked it up. Seems it's an emulsifier which can be either animal or plant derived. I don't see as there's an easy way of telling which. Again, whether or not this bothers you, only you can say.

I think what I'd do if I were you and was concerned, is fire off an email to whoever makes you favourite brand, and ask them directly. Who knows, if there are animal products in there and it can be changed fairly simply, they might do so if enough people ask them to.

Yes, if it's a 100% peanut butter, then you are safe, but most "brand name" peanut butters contains extra ingredients that are not safe and possibly not vegan.

Yes. Peanut butter is made from peanuts. Vegans don't eat food that comes from animals.

Vegan

It sure is! I'm vegan and I have it every morning on toast. 100% liquefied peanuts - Yum! If you're unsure of a brand just check the ingredients. :)

Usually peanut butter contains two ingredients: peanuts and salt. Seems pretty vegan-friendly to me.

Natural for sure.. its jsut peanuts and sometiems a little extra peanut oil.
I'm not sure about the regular PB.

Yes, it is.

I just had peanut butter on my Oreo's haha..

I'm sure peanut butter doesnt have meat in it or it would have to be refrigerated. So in that case Sure Knock yourself out.And if you're becoming a vegan i suggest you search it up in order to replace all the protein you get from your meat without eating the meat and still be able to be healthy 100 %

No because that would be exploiting the peanuts! Those poor peanut plants will be suffering in mass-producing greenhouses for what? So you can have something to slather on your sandwich!

OH THE HORROR!!

Peanuts are a species of panda bears native to central-western and south western China and North America. They are very solitary, quiet animals. So, yes
