The V with a leaf is not an international symbol either but only a mostly US one. . Since the interpretation of what constitutes "vegetarian" is subject to debate and personal beliefs, there is no universally acceptable symbol. There is no "governing body" which dictates what is "vegetarian/vegan" that is recognized internationally. It is a diet and lifestyle nothing more.

My restaurant simply states "Vegetarian" after the name of the dish. We don't separate vegetarian food into a separate category, they are integrated into the whole menu. A Vietnamese restaurant I know uses a green chili pepper (red chili for spicy food and the number of red chillies denotes the spice level). Another uses a small v sign. 100% Vegetarian restaurants do not need to use any symbol in their menus for obvious reasons. A well trained wait staff should be able to answer any question about all dishes besides.
Vegetarian items in the supermarket are often in an aisle/shelf/freezer section by themselves with a large banner or sign saying "Vegetarian" right on top. As far as I am concerned that is enough. No need for special symbols or any other special treatment.

Nope varies by country, in Ireland/egnland its a tick enclosed in a circle saying ''suitable for vegetarians'' with the tick resembling a crop.
In india i believe two different colours are on every food as India is mainly hindu/buddhists who are vegetarians though i'd say some sects aren't.
Then there is that V-leaf you name

vegetarian

It is usually associated with the color green. It is different in various countries. In the US, there is no standard, it can be whatever, it can just be written in words. In India, it is a green dot in a green square, a very small symbol.

Hi. Actually the vegetarian symbol is the V with the leaf attached.

As of yet there is no officially recognized international vegan symbol, although the sunflower trademark of the vegan society is sometimes used for this.
X

Yes, the international symbol is the letter V in green.
