biochem question about carb intake vs fats?!

Question: Biochem question about carb intake vs fats?
A friend of yours tells you that she plans to eliminate virtually all fats from her diet so she can lose weight. However, she sees no need to control the amount of carbohydrates because she knows that carbohydrates are used by the body to give her energy. What advice will you give your friend?

Hi, I would tell her that fats are a vital part of a healthy diet and it is not recommended to try to eliminate them. However I would recommend that she takes in "good" unsaturated fats from healthy sources such as nuts and avocado.

In regards to the carbohydrate I would agree that she should not limit carbs, although I'd make sure she knew the difference between complex carbs like brown rice and potatoes which should make up around half our diet, and the sugary simple carbs like biscuits and cakes which are best eaten in moderation.

I would tell her to cut down on fats and eliminate all bad carbs instead. Bad carbs being white flour, white rice, sugar...etc. Replace with whole wheat flour, brown rice....etc. This will also help her sugar levels as well as weight loss.
Vegetables and fruits (not grains/carbs) should be the primary source of nutrition if you plan on losing weight). Good carbs 2nd
