Who is vegetarian because of animal welfare?!

Question: Who is vegetarian because of animal welfare?
I have a question for you because I really don't understand... I became Vegan overnight because of the cruelty that animals endure in the name of humans. Knowing that chickens are sent to slaughter after egg laying is unproductive and cows are not only sent to slaughter after unable to produce milk BUT their calves are ripped from them after birth and given to veal slaughters... What makes you feel better about just not consuming their flesh? What is stopping you from consuming their products completely? I do understand that in some places REAL free range exists but you can't trust the store shelf saying free range. Knowing now that my consumption of dairy was completely foolish... I mean, I am a human not a cow... I don't understand how, after realizing these things exist, just decide to ditch the flesh and not the dairy and eggs too...

Thanks for any responses guys!!

Answers:

I'm for animal rights rather than welfare. No cages not bigger cages. Veganism is the moral baseline.
So, props to you, dude

I agree with you 100% I'm a vegetarian and have been for over a year. I'm 15 right now but when I move to my own house I'm going to rescue farm animals and race horse that get sent to slaughter houses after they can't race anymore along with a kill free shelter and a vet.

Animal lover :D I'm very glad you are making the change. Most people are heartless and don't care as long as they have taste on their plate.

I just wanted to say that I definitely disagree with the "over-population" reasoning. Even if animals were on the verge of taking over the world and it was required that they be killed, there would still be NO justification whatsoever for the ways they are already slaughtered now.

Well im vegan because i wanted to change my life and try to become more organized and i couldn't personally kill an animal. you have got to think about it this way, if we don't kill animals animals kill us. they will over populate the world and we will have no homes. our children wont be safe. and we would freeze our asses off cause animals will come into our house and destroy every thing and we will not have anywhere to go. that's why we have deer season. they jump out in front of cars. as many hunters as we have in the U.S., they kill a lot of deer and we have less accidents. yes they breed more but by the time they come back to its original number, we shoot them so they grow less prone to making us wreck and kill loved ones while we live and suffer from the regret. and chickens. that's sick what they do to them but they have to. all the people who love to eat chicken demand it and, again, we don't want over population. i hope that answers your question. sorry i spent so much time writing about deer. i know more about them then i do any other animal we eat or kill regularly because im from tennessee. haha =D

Its awesome to question this stuff and educate yourself. I suggest you read Michael Pollan's stuff, he will get you thinking even more! I am not a vegetarian, but instead I joined a co-op with a local farm. We get our eggs from there, meat, etc. and the cost is comparable to supermarket prices. I visit the farm and see the animals, they are free range...trust me, I got chased by a rooster lol. This helps me rationalize what and how I consume. In the end, you gotta do what you feel like you could live with at the end of the day, and I feel like I've made the most conscientious choice that I could. Good luck!
