I would like to be a vegetarian. Please help me!?!

Question: I would like to be a vegetarian. Please help me!?
As you can see, I would like to become a vegetarian, but NOT vegan. I am 13 years old and in the eighth grade. I LOVE to eat meat, but I have seen so many tortured and helpless animals that I can't help but think about that when I eat. My parents are against it, and don't take me seriously. Please help me with this issue. Also, I will probably not stop eating meat completely, but eat less, because meat is a big part of my diet. I do have other reasons for wanting to be a vegetarian, but my main one is just that I love animals and when I watch things like PETA I can't help, but be disgusted when I eat. I'm worried about what not eating meat does to you. I'm a picky eater and don't like many fruits or veggies and I hate nuts. If you have vegetarian websites or recipes, that would also be helpful.
Thank you! :)

So you don't want to be a vegetarian because you still want to eat meat and vegetarians never eat meat. In that case you can just reduce the amount of meat you eat. Maybe only eat it once a day or a couple of times a week. Hopefully in time you will find that you no longer feel the need to eat it.

Okay when I was in fourth grade (I am also 13) that was what I exactly thought. I loved meat but I didn't want to eat it becuase of the animals. Since then I stopped eating meat; now i am a vegetarian. My parents were against the idea too becuase everyone in America eats meat....and blah blah blah...Try to eat meat every 2 days (for a week), every 3 days ( for a week), every 4 days (for 2 weeks), every 5 days (3 weeks), and every week (forever). The only thing for this is to keep eating those veggies and let your system get used to it ,but don't starve yourself cause it will take a while to get used to. If you still crave meat eat beef jerky just to get the protien cause not all vegetarians are just vegin out (lol a little humor) give that a try and see what happens

u can go 2 goveg.com & order a free starter kit

I alway's wanted to be a Vegatarian but never took it seriuosly, Now I currently work in a Hospital that only serves a Vegetarian Menu. I was truly surprised by how similiar the menu was to a regular menu just without meat. After getting used to it I find the menu good! They serve foods like Pasta's,Sandwiches,Soups,French Fries,Nacho's, Burrito's,and many delicious Salads, all of these can include meat substitutes which you really don't taste the difference because you are use to eating these same foods they just don't have meat products. So if I were you I would give myself a certain time to try these recipes just take the fact out that you are not eating meat and that you are trying a different diet and it might just work for you. Good Luck

Our taste in food evolves over time, especially if we adopt new diets. If you become vegetarian and start eating delicious vegetarian meals, you may grow to really like fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Really! I hated mushrooms until about two years ago, and now I absolutely love them. You may experience something similar.

With regards to your nutritional concerns and your parents' concerns (which are likely nutritional as well), all you have to do is some research. Look for books and articles written by medical doctors, scientific researchers, and registered dietitians. Check to see if the authors' claims are backed up by facts, data and evidence. A good book for you to buy or check our from the library would be "Becoming Vegetarian" by Davis and Melina. You may find it a bit dense, but it's a great source of information.

In general, just know that a vegetarian diet can be extremely healthy, even healthier than one that includes meat. You and your parents have nothing to worry about so long as you generally eat a healthy, well-balanced diet and go easy on the junk food and refined grains.

You can find recipes just by Googling. You can also use vegweb, or any recipe website. Look for the highest-rated recipes so you know it'll be delicious.

Well, i'm a vegetarian, and have been my entire life. For that reason, i have never really ever tasted meat, therfore, i don't know what i'm missing. if you really like meat, i know that at whole foods, you can get a whole bunch of products that are supposed to taste like meat, but in reality are just made of soy. i eat things from there LOTS of times. they have hot dogs, chicken nuggets, tofurkey (turkey of tofu), corn dogs, ham, bacon strips, and sooo much more. but the only down side is that it's a little expensive, so make sure you dont buy too much at once and end up not liking it. another thing, temptations are just in your head. the more you know you cant eat something, the more you want it. so dont give in, stay strong! anytime you have a craving for meat, just think about the reasons that you are becoming a vegeatrian and you'll get through it. GOOD LUCK!!
