Vegans: does this irritate you?!

Question: Vegans: does this irritate you?
http://voraciouseats.com/2010/11/19/a-ve…

I don't know about you, but this makes me a little upset. Obviously it's completely possible to be a healthy vegan. Vegans are not weak, sickly people with numerous vitamin deficiencies. Of course, they do exist, just as there are weak, sickly omnivores. Every diet has people who eat poorly, who eat junk food and just don't care about nutrition.

But the reality is, someone who eats a healthy, balanced, vegan diet would not have any of the health conditions described in this blog (at least not that were caused by diet). It's false information like this that gives people the wrong idea about vegans.

Do you agree?

Holy crap! I read this and kind of felt sorry for her for a minute and then realized later in to it that it sounded SO scripted. @xxjenxx mentioned that this could be someone hired by the meat industry to write this, and I agree. Look at the comments under the post even! It all sounds so...fake. Maybe it is real. I don't know. But in my opinion, this is just some good "writing" here.

She writes:

"I also recognize that the massive production of grain is what led to the creation of factory farms in the first place; they simply would not have been possible otherwise."

HUH?! WTF? Sources please! An explanation would be great. Yet she fails to give the specific details, like for this example, that would back up what she's saying.

If you've read "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer like I have, you'd know, or rather SHE'D know that factory farming was not created because of mass production in grain.

"On their own and in alliances with the government and the scientific community, twentieth-century American businessmen planned and executed a series of revolutions in farming. They turned the early-modern philosophical proposition (championed by Descartes) that animals should be viewed as machines into reality for thousands, then millions, and now billions of farmed animals." - "Eating Animals", Jonathan Safran Foer

I think this is paid blogging right here. I see WAY too many vegans on here and other websites who have been vegan and healthy for like 40 years to even think that this could be true after 3.5 years.

" ...these animal foods won’t hurt me or cause me ill health in anyway, in fact, the vitamins and minerals they provide, along with the nutritious cholesterol and wholesome saturated fat, will restore my health."

Are you kidding me?!! What on earth was she eating (or NOT eating) that put her in such a poor state? Sounds more like an eating disorder to me....

Vegan, "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer

yeah, that'S really ridiculous. i'm not vegan by the way but i totally agree. the meat industry is very lucrative and they pay people to write things like this. it can't be considered as false advertisment, it's written like it were someone's personal experience. it's bull. you could be unhealthy on a vegan diest just like you can be healthy on one as well.

What irritates me is all the attention this drama queen is getting. She can eat what she wants, I just wish she would shut up and people would stop cross posting the dramatic essay. When she was a vegan she was preachy and annoying and now it appears as an omnivore she is going to be the same way.

Seen too much of her blog in the last week.

I agree with Becky...this dramatic novel has been posted everywhere. Ok fine eat what you want or must who cares.

Why would it irritate me.

The post is not saying that vegan is unhealthy. It is her own fault that she couldn't have a balanced diet. Her body is probably just weak, and cant stand alone without other things.

I would say im a Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian.

And essentially speaking, Vitamin B of any form is not needed. It may be good to have, but is not needed.

Having a balanced diet with meat is what is recommended, but you can have a healthy diet being a vegan.

It's her life, so I don't really care. It's not gonna change what I eat. I still wont eat meat. I've been a vegetarian for over 10 years now. And i have no defects. I'm as healthy as ever.

Omnivores probably have a higher chance of getting sick than vegetarians.

I don't think shes speaking for all vegans. Just herself

yes i agree. people will eat badly whether they are vegan or not. If you just eat processed fake meats and packet foods then of course you will have deficiencies, but if you eat fresh fruits and vegetables and food that a human is supposed to consume then you will have no problem at all. I have been vegan for around 4 years and have not once taken any supplements or monitored my diet in any way at all, i have just eaten what i wanted to eat and because i enjoy fresh foods i am completely healthy. peoiple think being vegan is difficult, and maybe it is for someone who has just eaten junk food all their life, but for someone with a healthy diet full of whole foods it is incredibly easy and nothing to even think about at all.
