Vegans don't consume meats of any kid and any product derived from animals. Vegetarians do not consume meat but will eat eggs, dairy and other products that were made from animals. It's healthier to be all vegan because it will help you lose weight and make you feel fuller faster. It's also better for your health since there are no saturated fats or chemicals like there are in animal products. The only con of starting vegan is you'll probably have to go to the bathroom more because ou're consuming more fiber (that symptom will stop in like a week). Your bodys just regulating o it's new diet. When you're going vegetarian you have a wider range of options on certain foods since not many places substitute eggs, dairy, etc. in their products (mayonaise, ice cream, cookies, etc.) unless you go to a vegan restaurant, whole foods store or any place specializing in that sort of thing. The only cons of being vegetarian is milk can leach the nutrients out of your bones due to it's high calcium levels & it can cause cancer. The cons to eating eggs is it's very high in cholestorol & some of them can be contaminated. It's just up to you on how you want to eat and live. I'm a vegan and my parents are vegetarian, you'll be surprised how many places now offer vegan alternatives of your favorite foods.

Ugh Daisy please stop speaking. You constantly say ignorant and obnoxious things on this board. Vegans have no problem with people having animals at home; they're actually more likely to adopt more animals from shelters. Even Ingrid Newkirk of PETA says she would have no problem with people adopting animals - she just prefers they adopt at least two - that way the animals have each other when you're not home. Only the extremists are against people taking care of animals. As long as you can provide a good and loving home, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I personally (just me, not all vegans) believe that only cats and dogs should be in homes. All other animals need to be free in nature: birds should be able to fly where they want, fish should be able to swim where they'd like, etc.

vegan :D

Since vegans are vegetarians I'll assume that you mean Vegan vs. Lacto-Ovo.

Both vegans and lacto-ovo vegetarians do a lot more for animals, their health and the environment than non vegetarians. I find it extremely amusing that some people use stupid arguments like the accidental
killing of field mice during the harvesting of crops to justify the deliberate torture, killing and eating of farm animals. They even go so far as to say that vegans are hypocrites for doing everything they reasonably can do to minimize the harm they inadvertently cause to animals because it's impossible to
save every animal. It's pretty easy to spot the real hypocrites.

some vegans do have pets and most don't have a problem with it. i'm pretty sure it's just some of the animal rights groups that say that. i think it depends on you primary motive. if you want to do it for the animals you might feel more comfortable being vegan.

Vegans! Their diet is more natural and sustainable

Jack, you're stupid.

Vegetarian since birth

well from what ive heard being vegan just makes you better than everybody else

You've got to define "better." Here in the US most vegetarians are lacto-ovo vegetarians meaning they eat eggs and dairy products. They just don't eat the flesh of animals. A vegetarian can get complete protein, B12, and iron from eggs and dairy products.

Vegans will tell you they don't "use" any animal. Not as pets, not as food, not as clothing. But, overall, they are not a truthful bunch. They use the byproducts of livestock slaughter just as omnis do: glues in books and furniture, medical benefits of animal testing, roads and streets contain byproducts..... By cutting out all animal products from their diet, vegans MUST supplement for vitamin B12 at the very least. You can get shots, pills or eat highly processed foods, but it's not available in a true vegan diet.

Vegans need to watch out for protein. They'll pretend it's not a problem, but it certainly can be. Protein is made up of amino acids. Meat contains all the amino acids needed to make a complete protein. Different veggies contain different amino acids, but few contain all of them. So you need to eat a wide variety of veggies and a lot of them to get all the amino acids to make the complete protein your body needs.

Iron in veggies is non-heme iron and is not as well used by your body as the heme iron in animal products. So, again, you need to eat a lot of the iron rich veggies like spinach to get the iron your body needs.

I'll post a link to the veganhealth site below. If you want to take time to read it, it has the scoop on nutrients vegans need to be aware of in their diet.

Here's the link to a young woman who has left the vegan fold. She got very sick: http://voraciouseats.com/2010/11/19/a-ve…

Overall, I'd say go with being a vegetarian. It's the least extreme of the diets. An extreme diet of any kind is not healthy.

ADDED: They really don't care. Their stand is that we have no right to do anything for or against animals. I'd guess cats would revert to the wild. They expect dogs to just die out. Or so they say. That's a PETA stand. They say we've domesticated dogs to the point they are dependent on humans and that's immoral. So people should stop breeding dogs. Eventually, they'll just "disappear from our hearth" to quote PETA (or some silly statement like that).

OMG! I am very sympathetic to you. I had an identical problem recently. Good luck with this issue. I'm sorry i can't be of any help...

Neither. Carnivore for life!

both are stupid, restruicting yourself from you natural diet
