Honestly, buy her a veg(etari)an book. Some cookbooks on veg(etari)anism contain GREAT information BEFORE the actual recipes are presented. They may also list items that, for example, protein, zinc, iron, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 (and all the other "vegetarian-need" vitamins/minerals) are contained in that are not meat/seafood. Look for this specifically in books.
Then, tell her to read the book. Really READ it, and pay attention to what it says (make sure you get one of good quality with lots of information)-----go either to the cookbook section in a bookstore near you, or there may even be a vegetarian/vegan section (which may or may not be beside the cookbook section), THEN tell her once she's done that and become informed on your decision, that you two should talk about it. Right now, she's likely terribly uninformed, so thus jumps right to the immediate (and expected) reaction that you will be malnourished without meat, especially if she has never tried/given thought to/or met a vegetarian/vegan before. But before you can talk it out together in a calm, rational manner, she needs information. She likely thinks your opinion is biased, as you're the one who wants to become vegetairan, thus you will only state information IN your favor. So, again, a book will come in handy as she may not think of it as a biased source, ESPECIALLY if it has primary research articles (or references to them) in the book.
By the way, primary research articles are the research papers scientists write up (containing an abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, and works cited page) after conducting an experiment. They ARE NOT the result of one looking information up in a book or internet source and summing up what they discovered; that would be considered a SECONDARY source.
I would try and arm yourself with as much information as possible about the nutritional requirements for vegetarians and get plenty of recipes so that your mum can see whilst you might be doing this partly for ethical reasons your health and getting a balanced diet is equally as important to you. I'm not sure if this is aimed at your age group but this link may provide you with some of the information you need. http://www.youngveggie.org/
Hope this helps and good luck :)
So you think the animals will no longer be harmed if you stop eating meat? Well guess what. You are torturing vegetables too. Fruits and Veggies are living organisms too made up of cells. Just because they don't walk or talk doesn't mean they have no life. And how about those poor ameobas in our water who go through that grueling factory in our digestive system? You're a hypocrite. Be smart and listen to your mom.
it's always hard when a parent wont accept a reasonable change.i would try to be as calm and mature about it as you can.if you're being mature and your mom should take you seriously. if you feel like she is not being mature ask her to explain why she is doing what she is doing and why she feels the way that she does. she probably has some misconceptions you will have to debunk. go to the library and check out books on vegetarianism and print Information out. highlight the most important parts cause she might not feel like reading the whole thing at first.
My 11 year old decided to go veg about a month ago and I told her that as long as she stayed healthy and got the proper nutrition I would support her. If her health suffers she goes back to eating meat. Maybe you could try some kind of deal like that with your mom and volunteer to cook a couple nights a week to make it a bit easier for her to plan meals. Hope this helps!
research and print out info on healthy vegetarian dieting including some meal plans everyone in your family can have as well. Plan ahead and show how mature you are, and how serious and important this is to you. just ask to sit down and talk about it. Compromise and work together!!
I think your mom punishing you because you of your eating habits is crazy. Explain to her there are other ways to get protein and If you cook for yourself there shouldn't be a problem. Show her information on vegetarianism and print up a vegetarian menu.
Mama knows best;)
