Should i give up being a veggie?!

Question: Should i give up being a veggie?
im a 15 year old girl.
i'm a vegetarian and have been for 2 and a bit years.I wanted to go vegetarian because i felt bad for the animals and did not like to think of the suffering. i like being veggie as i am not 'apart of it' i feel fine, and healthy but i think im gaining too much weight from the veggie diet.

the reasons im thinking of stop being a veggie is that im fat,i look fat from the dairy ETC

and relationships, i feel being a vegetarian can cause complications for when i get into relationships especially young relationships - i have never had a boy friend before.

and that im over weight im 9st.6 and im 5ft 2!!!!
my dad keeps trying to convince me to eat meat.

but i feel if i go back to meat i will feel disappointed in myself, and if i don't what will happen in the future with relationships, will being a veggie effect marriage and i know my thoughts are jumping the gun but as a teen girl im thinking of love and relationships

Answers:

1. You are not THAT overweight. You have very little weight to lose.
2. If you think dairy is the problem, you can go dairy-free. Drink soy/almond/rice/hemp milk, eat those kinds of ice creams, etc.
3. Switching back to meat might make you gain more weight. Might.
4. You could always just reduce your fact intake and start exercising more, but stay vegetarian.
5. Don't worry about how being a vegetarian will affect your future romantic relationships. It could be a good thing, even! If meet a guy who is a jerk about it, then you can just forget about him! It's really not that hard to be vegetarian and have a meat-eating boyfriend or husband. There are so many other facets to a relationship. Don't let this become an anxiety for you.

If you want to lose weight, then please talk to your parents, an adult friend or relative you are close to, a counselor at school, your doctor, etc. Do this for your HEALTH and don't let yourself develop a poor body image. Strengthen it!

You're making a big thing out of nothing. You're overweight because you eat too much and/or don't get enough exercise. The rest of your concerns are unfounded and very easy to deal with.

In life, please yourself and don't keep trying to please everyone else. You will find when you are pleased others will be be pleased with you. Your future relationships will develop based on who you really are, not by what you eat.

Hello

Look around you, the majority of fat people in the world with serious problems are meat eaters. Replace your dairy with either soy/almond milk/rice milk products or avoid dairy - just get an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains and so on. Then if you are still worried and unhappy, do whatever you have to do ok.

Your not overweight because your eating dairy and fruits and veggies. You are overweight because you are probably eating a lot of carbs and snacks and desserts which are technically vegetarian but certainly not healthy. If you want to be a vege then do it right otherwise you are causing more health problems with yourself in the long run.

Just eat less dairy.
Look at a steak...there is so much fat that you can cut it off with a knife! And there is still MORE!
Look at ground beef...80/20 means %20 solid fat.
Look at a mushroom...see any fat?
Look at a carrot, or pinto beans, or a salad...as long at you don't drown it in dip/dressing/butter you will be eating less fat than you would in most non-seafood meats.

Instead of eggs, toast, and cereal for breakfast, eat bacon every morning and see how much weight you gain.

I became a vegetarian about 3 months ago and have lost 20 pounds.
Ask your dad to buy more healthy foods and EAT THEM!

As far as relationships go, if the guy doesn't want to date you because you don't eat meat, then he isn't the kind of person you want to be with. How trivial a thing to turn down a date for! Honestly, would he complain if you were diabetic and couldn't eat sugar? Or allergic and couldn't eat peanuts?

Good luck and stay strong!

Adding meat to your diet (of 2 years) won't cause you to lose weight, but to gain weight. I have a friend who was a thin vegetarian 3 years ago, and now he's chubby, and regularly eats McRibs... yuck. (what a gross meat concept, even among other options at McDonalds!) I've gotten thinner while being a vegetarian, but I also watch my calorie intake. If you're eating cheese cake every day, you're going to gain weight, even if you're a vegetarian. The only thing that causes real weight loss is calorie control. (at least that's the only proven method)

If you change your diet, and eat meat, you can expect to gain around 20 pounds from your current weight. (I've lost about 20 from veing vegetarian, and additional weight from following a calorie control program)

Might I suggest going vegan? Im vegan, and I was a vegetarian before I got this way. After going fully vegan I lost a lot of weight, just from avoiding the worst part of animal products; dairy.
A typical vegetarian tends to end up eating more dairy and other animal products to compensate for the absence of meat.
Dairy is very bad for you, and is actually worse for the animals than meat in that the dairy cows are tortured for years (or months, depending on how long they let them live) rather than killing them fir their meat.
If a boy dislikes you because you stand up for what you believe in, he isn't worth it.
Do what feels right to you, and never give up.

Weight gain is the result of too much food alongside too little exercise. If you are really worried, keep a food diary and consider how much you eat. You can work out how many kilojoules you need to eat each day here: http://www.virtualmedicalcentre.com/calo… For your age and height, you need 1774 calories per day to stay at that weight if you get NO exercise and 2417 calories if you are an active person.

You just need to increase your exercise to burn off extra energy you get from food, or reduce the extra energy from food by regulating what you eat more carefully. At your current weight, walking for 60 minutes per day will burn 283 calories.

HOWEVER as a young woman you are in a high risk group for dietary disfunction. Dieting is not a great thing to become involved in at your age as you can form lifelong bad habits. The best thing to do would be eat healthy and eat when you feel like it, but do plenty of regular exercise.
