SHOPPING for sale items no matter what your diet is.

It's expensive only if you live on Boca/Morningstar/whatever "faux-meats" and vitamin/mineral tablets.
It's actually a lot cheaper if you just eat "normal" food, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, pasta, cereals, legumes, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, fruit juice, canned goods, yeast, molasses, seaweed, soy milk (where I live soy milk is almost as cheap as cow milk, but the others, such as oat milk, rice milk and almond milk are a bit more expensive), flax seeds, tofu (I prefer tempeh, but that's about twice the price of tofu, so it's an occasional treat), etc. You can still buy things like quinoa, chia seeds, almond milk, tempeh, "faux-meats", etc. occasionally, but limit them to maybe once a week or less. Other than that, always be on the lookout for specials and reduced-to-clear items in the supermarkets, Asian grocers, healthfood shops, markets, etc. Sometimes a supermarket will decide that they're not selling enough tempeh, for instance, and it's just taking up valuable shelf-space, so they put "discontinued item" or "reduced to clear" stickers on and drop them to half price or less. That's a good time to cheaply fill your freezer or pantry with the items that you know you're going to eat.

Vegan!

Hi, it's always a good idea to buy things in bulk is since it works out cheaper overall.

Things like dried beans and grains are vegan staples and are fairly inexpensive and last for ages so get the biggest packets of these you can find!

What I like to do is have a big cooking session at the weekends then freeze portions to use during the week. This means none of your food will go to waste since it's ready when you need it rather than sitting in the fridge and slowly going off.

Frozen and canned veg are cheaper than fresh but are still loaded with nutrients.

Writing out a meal plan for the week then using this to make your shopping list is also good since it means you'll only buy exactly what you need without spending money on anything you won't use.

Vegan

when i went veg I actually SAVED money on my food because meat is expensive. If you still find that its a little on the costly side . (and please keep in mind that vegan is just a WIDE term, some people aren't very health vegans) try using stable foods like rice and beans. In healthy amounts these can help you save money, and even helps some people loose weight.

Hello

I understand what you are saying, the price of fruits and vegetables in the UK is going higher and higher at a very fast rate. I would say in general cut out the processed fake meats, cheeses, pates etc as they are expensive and you can actually make many of your own.

if you know how to cook then it's going to be easy. just look up recipes on the internet based on what you buy.

Converting to a vegan diet would be expensive if you're eating out but not if you cook your own food.

Last time I checked, rice and beans are not expensive. Any diet will be expensive if you only buy prefab, heat and eat food. Look up some recipes and make them yourself. You can even make extra and freeze it for later.

just look in a cookbook..most of the vegan meals involve the same products, fruits veggies and always stock up on herbs and spices.

im a vegan :-)

Talk to the people at your local farmers market. Grow some of your own veggies if you have any space. Get together with neighbors and create a community garden.

no meat - less expense

Buy beans, quinoa, rice, PNB, soy milk, etc. in bulk; costco comes to mind.

meat is expensive more then other foods thats how!
