Question: Does anyone know if America's Choice 16 oz mozzarella is vegetarian?
For those of you who are familiar with A&P, Im wondering if Americas Choice whole milk mozzarella cheese is vegetarian? I get them in 16 oz. blocks, if that makes a difference.

It looks like America's Choice cheeses are made with non-animal rennet. Rennet is the ingredient in cheese that is most often non-vegetarian. It would be best to contact the company to be sure; contact info below.

I was able to find this info on a forum called veggieboards:

"Hello, Just wanted to let everyone know that I got in touch with the America's Choice Brand ( from waldbaums, king kullen, pathmark..etc) They said the rennet in their American cheese is vegetable rennet, and that the cheese comes from the same supplier so all of their cheese should be used with vegetable and not animal based. I don't know who eats cheese or shops at any of these stores but thought this might help because this is one of the cheaper brands out there....The people were very nice and helpful about special dietary needs so just give them a call."

I also found some contact info for America's Choice here:

"Americas Choice is the A&P brand, they are located in Montvale, NJ I found a number, 201-573-9700 and the address is 2 Paragon DR, Montvale,NJ 07645 This may not be the corporate office but they can direct you to it."

And here is the company's website!

The main A&P site:

And the part specifically about America's Choice brand:

Good luck!

Who cares if it's vegetarian or not, it is milk that made by a mother for her baby. They kill the baby and take the mother's milk. The rennet is made from fluid inside the calf's stomach. If you are killing the calf to take the milk anyway why does it matter if the cheese also contains rennet?

Go Vegan! I used to love the taste of cheese and thought I could never give it up, but after you stop eating it for a while your tastes change and you don't crave it anymore.

Hi, contacting customer service sounds like a good idea.
This site http://www.food.com/library/vegan-brand-… seems to say they use fish oil but I'm not sure how true that is.
The safest way is always to phone them directly.

There is NEVER any meat in cheese. Why wouldn't it be vegetarian?

Yes. It's a dairy product. It's safe to eat.
