I don't like meat.. am I a vegan?!

Question: I don't like meat.. am I a vegan?
So I can't stand the taste of rare or even medium rare steak.. the last time I had it I almost threw up. I don't like the texture of most meats and if I think about what i'm eating I have to stop eating it. I can pretty much only eat steak/turkey/chicken, etc. if its really dry. I live on a farm where we raise a small herd of 10 Angus cattle for meat pretty much just for personal use. My family thinks its crazy not to like meat and frown upon not eating meat. They will almost force it down my throat untill I eat it. I mean its not like I want to not like it.. I want to like meat.. I just, don't. So should I just keep plugging my nose and forcing it down.. or am I truely a vegan/vegetarian? I just don't know what to do.. need some advice

p.s. I love animals and want to be a vet when I grow up. I'm 16. I don't think eating animals is wrong.. as long as its in moderation

?VEGANISM is a Lifestyle? You prefer not eating meat, I guess you could be a Vegetarian▼▲

well it depends on what you want to be there are are vegeterians that eat only white meat, theres vegeterians that only eat seafood, then theres ovo-lacto vegeterians (like me)that don't eat meat but eat dairy and eggs. Then theres vegans that dont eat meat, eggs or dairy, then there is organic vegans that only eat food that is both vegan an organic(organic food can be more expesnsive but is sooo much better for you)

i am a vegeterian

to be honest, who knows.
If you think your a vegetarian or vegan thats great; if you slip up and eat some meat (especially if it involves keeping the sanity of your family,) thats great too.
The only silly people who object are just veggie for the label. who cares, life's short.

don't violate your beliefs to please your family, but don't sacrifice family for your beliefs find the balancing act.

Spread happieness.

Do you eat meat? Do you eat eggs? Do you eat/drink dairy? Do you eat any kind of animal product? Do you wear fur, leather, silk, pearls, or any other animal skins? Do you use things tested on animals and/or that have animal ingredients in them?
If the answer to any of the above questions is "Yes," then no you are not a vegan.

vegan :D

A vegan is someone who NEVER eats any meat (including poultry, fish, seafood, products containing things such as gelatin), eggs, dairy, honey or any animal/insect product, they do not wear fur, hair, leather and they don't use products tested on animals/insects, or containing their parts in them...

Well, i have been a vegan my whole life but in your case it seems that you should become a vegetarian. Being a vegan means that you don't eat any animal products like milk and cheese. It doesn't seem to bother you when you eat dairy so you should stop forcing it and become a vegetarian.

No, your not a vegetarian or vegan. A vegetarian is somebody who doesn't eat meat because they think it is wrong to eat animals. A vegan is somebody who doesn't have any animal products like leather boots, cheese, or bacon, etc. :)

well you have just said i can pretty much eat steak, turkey, chicken. so no your not a vegan or a vegetarian. also us veggies don't just make sure we are not eating meet we will check other foods to.

vegetarian!

No. Vegetarians don't eat meat at all, vegans don't consume any animal products.

I think you could be on your way to a glorious and healthy way of life! I'm happy to hear that you are starting now! Your body is rejecting meat for a reason. It's not healthy to eat dead flesh. It's very unhealthy. Unfortunately, there are people depending on the rest of us to eat the stuff so that they can make a living, like your family. Stick in there! Don't make a big deal about it now as you are at home with your family; instead, quietly stick to your whole grains, your vegetables, and your fruits. You will find that people are often "set" in their beliefs; just know that you are doing the right thing for your body by listening to it. When I was 13, I noticed the same thing, that my body didn't like meat. But, unlike you, I didn't listen to it and ate what the normal culture did. I thought vegans and vegetarians were weird. NOW I know different!! There are so many famous vegans and vegetarians! Please take the time to read PETA.org to find out awesome recipes, reasons to choose not to eat meat, and how you can help animals in other ways! Becoming a vet is great!! You can help animals now by not eating meat and then later, by being a vet you will be helping animals!

By the way, if you are a vegetarian, you still eat milk products, wear animal products, and use food products from animals. If you are a vegan, you don't use anything related to animals. Honestly, start by dropping meat and then you can decide how far into non-animal products you would like to go. You will find that you will feel better once you drop the meat from your life!

Veganism is a choice, not a genetic condition. I would recommend you stop eating meat if you don't like it-if your family tries to force it on you tell them that's abuse. It might help if you take the trouble to gather some information on exactly what you plan to eat to get the nutrients that meat provides (hint:there are only 3) so they don't have the excuse of being concerned about your welfare. At the very least maybe you can eat less of it. Once you are 18 you can do as you please.

Well no but you could be one.
It would be better to start by being a vegetarian. Vegetarians don't eat anything for which the animal has been killed. So you can still eat dairy which includes chocolate, cheese and eggs. If you're doing it for ethical reasons, no gelatine sweets either, like Haribos.
If your family try to force meat down your throat, tell them you are 16 and old enough to make your own choices. If they refuse to cook you anything but vegetables, you can find proper vegetarian recipes on the internet and in cookbooks. If they won't make any of the recipes for you, cook your own dinner. This will show them you are dedicated enough to change your lifestyle. Then they might realise it's your choice.

am a vegetarian

Well there is a difference between not liking meat, and being a vegan. Vegetarians don't eat meat, but vegans don't use any products tested/ using animals. You should probably just tell your family you don't like the meat. You probably already have, but just remind them you are your own person. And don't make them go out of their way to suit you being a vegetarian. If they are having meat one night, just make yourself something else. But plenty of things have meat or use animals, so if you want to be a vegan you should probably be a vegetarian first, just to ease yourself into it. But if you plan on being vegan, you need to check deodorant, shampoo, everything like that, because I can almost guarantee it was all tested on animals.
Hope that helped. :)

A vegan is a strict type of vegetarian who believes it is wrong to use animals for food, clothes, medicine/experiments, and furniture.

If you don't think eating animals is wrong, you're not a vegan.

Vegans also do not eat fish, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy, and honey, in addition to not eating red meat.

Some vegetarians only do it for diet, environmental, or fad purposes, but this is rare.

Most vegetarians/vegans do it for religious and/or ethical reasons.

If you want to be a vegetarian, eat more beans, spaghetti, cashews, rice, fruits, and grains.

Boca, Morningstar Farms, Lightlife, Amy's Kitchen, Annie's Homegrown, Tofurky, Yves, Worthington, and Quorn are brands of vegetarian products that can be found at health food stores, whole food stores, and major supermarket chains like Pathmark, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, Foodtown, etc.
