PCRM.ORG has a vegan challenge. I used many recipes they had and I was given the book Veganomicon which has great recipes. Right now I am eating Purely Decadent Ice Cream Cherry Nirvana it is so good and it is vegan! Check out vegweb.com for some really great quick easy recipes and vegandad.blogspot.com. Good Luck I think PCRM will have another challenge soon which could help you accomplish your goal.

Vegan

If you're into that kind of thing, there are companies based in JB (and probably other places in Malaysia and Singapore) that specialise in making mock duck, mock fish, etc. I can't remember the company names, but I'm sure they shouldn't be too hard to find.

Other than that, you don't really need to buy products like that in order to be a vegan. Fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, cereals, seaweed, tempeh, tofu and things like molasses (gula melaka?) should be available to you. I wish I had the variety of fresh fruit here that you have over there. I could kill for some chiku juice right now! Obviously, as a vegan, you'd probably have to make your own roti canai, rather than buy the ones which contain eggs and possibly butter, but that's not impossible thankfully.

Vegan!

I went from eating meat for 23 years, to becoming a vegetarian for a month and now have been a vegan for a year and a half. So I've done a lot of experimenting to make veganism appetizing and easier to stick with. Boca products are fantastic (though not all are vegan so watch the ingredients) my favorite is their 'chicken' patties. If you go to their site they have some easy and fun recipes, just make sure to keep them vegan! (http://www.bocaburger.com/recipes.aspx). A book that I found really useful, and cheap is Peta's Vegan College Cookbook (all microwaveable). The recipes are easy to follow, cheap, and made in minutes, though I wouldn't suggest living off the microwave forever.... who knows what that magical box actually does to your food & you... O.o but it's great for starters! There's a site that I get the majority of my meal ideas, and once you moved away from the microwave, I highly suggest it: (http://happylittlevegans.com/wordpress/?cat=4) The biggest tip that I can give you though is to be prepared for cravings, no matter where you are, I like to keep a few Justin's Nut Butter's with me just in case (sounds like a perverted name, I know, but great products!)

Try not to rely too much on processed foods and faux meat. Get some good books with vegan recipes which utilize wholesome, fresh foods. PCRM.org, drmcdougall.com, fatfreevegan.com are some pretty good sites, but there are numerous others so check them out.

Focus on the pleasure of new discoveries and experiences rather than on what you're "letting go" of.

Happy Vegan.

If you don't like preparing your own food from scratch, Amy's frozen meals are great. Don't eat too many though or all that sodium will get to you.
