question for vegans and vegetarians...?!

Question: Question for vegans and vegetarians...?
what do you think about peta and why?

Answers:

I support their diet and act against animal cruelty, but I do think they take it a little too far. They give off the impression that all vegetarians/vegans are extremists who despise meat eaters... which obviously isn't true.

I'm a vegetarian and in your same boat. I've glanced on their website 1 or 2 times, and have mixed feelings. They have great recipes and ideas, of stuff to eat if your a veg'n, also lists of restraints that are veggie friendly.

Personally, i think that peta has kinda turned into a cult-- they care about the ethical treatment of animals which is great, but they tend to go over-board to the point of making omnivores hate vegetarians or vegans just because of peta. I'd like them better if they toned down their message.

So i guess their not all good, but not all bad either. But what is?

Cheers! Happy holidays. :D

P.S i like your avatar's hair scarf

Hi :)

I'm not sure D: Like you, I don't really know much about them. It seems like a really great cause, but I have a very well informed friend who tells me that they are very extreme :( He says "if a hawk were attacking your face, PETA would be the kind of people who would condemn you for shielding yourself in case you injured it". Obviously that is an exaggeration, but it sounds as though they are quite biased and extremist.

I see Peta as a turn-off, but I have heard from people who became veg because of Peta. So that's a good thing. Sometimes I think "the message" needs to come in various forms, and that different people will respond to different ways. I agree that Peta is so large and ubiquitous it gives the appearance that it speaks for all vegs, and that is unfortunate. When I tell someone I am vegan, I have to prove to them that I am not a nut, thanks to Peta.

I use Peta as a resource - they are my go-to for videos, facts (which I of course verify), lists of products, etc.

I heard something from credible sources, that Peta runs pet shelters and euthanizes many animals. I have a big problem with that. Also Peter Singer says that they have gotten in the way of cooperative negotiations with animal-unfriendly companies that were improving.

PETA is the Frankenstein of the animal welfare movement. A seemingly good idea that has become a monster. PETA supporters keep making the fantastic claim that they and they alone are the real guardians of animals/animal welfare issues but can't wrap their minds around the reality that their group is responsible for making animal welfare causes into a joke so that it is ignored by the majority instead of being discussed as a legitimate issue. Add to that the fact that since PETA has "anointed" itself as the one and only interpreter of veganism/vegetarianism" true practitioners and believers of those lifestyles have to live with/endure all the negative stereotypes.

PETA is to animal welfare what Bin Laden and Al Qaida is to Islam.

to say that "I support their ideas/diet etc but not the group itself" is ridiculous. Just like saying "I support their concentration camps and gas chambers but not the Nazis themselves" Pathetic closet PETA member cop out..

I think they are extremists who make veg*ns look bad.

they have some good info but they make all veg*ns look bad cause they're too extreme.

I think they are a hindrance to their own cause. Why? Because they are.
