1) Not necessarily. Like any other way of eating, you will lose weight if you take in less calories than you burn. It's never healthy to cut calories too low, so even on a vegan diet you need to ensure that you're getting enough to stay healthy.

2) If a vegan diet is properly planned then it is capable of giving you everything your body needs. Obviously it is possible to have an unhealthy vegan diet, but if you do your research and make sure you're getting all the right nutrients, a vegan diet is capable of being really great for your body. It is typically very high in fruit and vegetables.

3) Not if it's done properly. When people go vegan the right way they often find that they have a lot more energy and feel really great.

1. I did not lose any weight. I keep track of my calories, and since I continued eating the same number of calories, my weight stayed the same.

2. Just like any diet, if you do it right it is healthy. You can't live on coconut milk ice cream and potato chips and expect to be healthy.
One also needs to supplement B12, or use nutritional yeast in recipes.

3. No. Again, unless you eat a lot of junk it does not affect you. I run varsity XC and track, am training for my first half marathon, hand have only gotten sick once in my 1 1/2 years of being veggie.

I currently eat the occassional egg from my cousins' hens, not for health reasons but simply because I don't think there's anything wrong when the chickens are treated well, not killed, no male-chick-killing, etc, and I enjoy the taste.
This is probably about an egg every month, so I really doubt that that is affecting my diet in an enormous way; I don't term myself vegan, but at least 95% of my meals are.

1. do you lose a lot of weight
--I lost about twenty pounds. I'm a little concerned about the speed with which I lost the weight, but I don't feel sick so I think it should be okay. I think it's from cutting out cheese.

2. is it healthy
--I believe I'm eating healthfully, yes.

3. do you feel awful and tired and dizzy
--I do feel tired, but that's probably because finals are next week and I'm not getting any sleep. Once crunch time is over, I'm sure I'll be fine again. I don't feel awful or dizzy.

1. You can lose a lot of weight, depending on what you eat. Veganism is not magic. It's still calories in; calories out. There are fat vegans that eat vegan junk food just like there are fat omnis who eat normal junk food.

2. I don't believe a vegan diet can be healthy. It's an extreme, unnatural diet. Why do I call it unnatural? Vitamin B12 is unavailable in a strictly plant based diet. It's an animal product. You MUST take a supplement for vitamin B12, at the very least. Perhaps you can make it work for a while, but I don't think it's healthy. Here's the link to a girl's blog who tried very hard to be vegan for several years. She was very, very sick: http://voraciouseats.com/2010/11/19/a-ve…

Veganism has always had a high drop out rate. But most of the "failures" just slunk away and were never heard of again on the 'net. But today more and more vegans are speaking out and admitting, online, that the diet is unhealthy. While there is some evidence that a vegetarian diet can be beneficial to your health, theres absolutely nothing to show that cutting ALL animal products out of your diet benefits your health. In fact, there are many people who have gotten sick on the vegan diet. How can not wearing leather benefit your health?

And here's a link to the VeganHealth site. It gives you the straight, scientific information on how to be a healthy vegan: http://www.veganhealth.org/

3. Again, the vegan diet is not magic, it depends on what you eat.

1 yes

2 H*ll yes

3 h*ll no.

It isn't healthy for you, but i suppose it's healthy for the animals that aren't being slaughtered. Yet one person doesn't make that big a difference. You will most likely lose a lot of weight and feel weird. Also you will need to take many vitamins and pills as supplements.

Why so many thumbs down :S
I'm serious you miss a lot of protein therefore pill supplements must be taken or large quantities or certain vegies
