Hi. Nice resolution!

You'll need to avoid anything with meat, rennet (check cheese labels), gelatin (check deserts) and any real meat flavoring.

Maybe to begin with you could replace the meals you usually eat with vegetarian versions. This can be done by swapping the meat for things like beans or TVP mince. After that you can try experimenting with new recipes such as curries, stir-fries, soups etc.

Try to have 3 wholesome, balanced meals a day. For each meal make sure you have a portion of fruit or veg, one of protein and one of complex carbs. If possible try to stick to as natural, whole products as possible. Stuff like vegetables, beans, wholegrains, fruit, nuts etc. Add in a couple of healthy snacks like nuts and dried fruit and you have a perfectly balanced diet.

Nuts and beans in particular are a great vegetarian staples which are loaded with nutrients.

Good luck with it.

Random advice.. If you're really serious about being vegetarian, watch out for lollies and stuff that contains gelatin, as it comes from animals.. Most "gummy" lollies will have it.

I didn't realise this until I had already been vegetarian for quite a while, it's something most people probably don't think about.

And another thing is cochineal / carmine / E120 food colouring, which is made from beetle shells or something, which I discovered is in some potato chips and apparently cosmetics! Ew! :P
