What should I put in my dry Great Northern beans instead of the salt pork it says on the side of the bag?!

Answers:

The point is flavor and a little fat. You can use bacon or ham hock, if you are still down with using meat. If you are making it veg or vegan, what I would do is just increase the other spices you are using, maybe some maple syrup and or liquid smoke to remind you of that bacon flavor (check the label, I don't know what it is made of), and add some olive oil (vegan) or butter (veg).

Just use salt, some vegetable oil or butter (margarine), and a little liquid smoke..
