The Hay Diet asserts that improved health can be obtained by having a balanced PH level in the body. Having too much acid in the body can encourage undesired health conditions such as allergies, gallstones, arthritis and more. Eating the right foods in the right combinations can promote a balanced PH level.

The diet is rich in vegetables and fruits. Carbohydrates should not be combined with proteins or acidic fruits during a meal. Proteins, fats and starches are consumed in small quantities. Only whole grains are consumed and processed foods, white flour and white sugar are prohibited. It should also be noted that milk is not desirable because there is no beneficial combination with other foods. Also, it is recommended that there should be four to four and half hours between meals and there should be three meals each day. The diet can be hard to follow because it is restrictive. However, if the diet can relieve some of the discomfort from you medical conditions, it may be worth a try.
