If vegans/vegetarians...would you...?!


Question: If vegans/vegetarians...would you...?
If you raise your own meat (including fish) and produce food for yourself naturally and organically, not abusing your animals and allowing them to die naturally- would you eat the meat?
In other words... is it safe to purchase eggs, chicken, fish, and dairy from a local butcher-type place or a farm, that is not industrialized and you can see that the animals are living freely?????

Honestly I'm vegetarian for more than ethical reasons. I just find the flesh of a dead animal to be extremely unappetizing and I don't understand why anyone would want to eat that.
So most likely, no. Besides, cows usually live to be up to 25 years old. That cow I raised would be so old and gross inside, and he/she probably would die from heart failure or illness. No way I'd eat that.
ALL meat that is sold in stores is slaughtered. Cows are killed by the time they're 5-6 years old when they're meat is "ripe". Yes, it would be better to buy meat from an industry that has free-ranged animals. But would I (myself) buy from there? No. No matter what, they're still killed for the sole-purpose of being eaten.
Add: Killing an animal by putting it to sleep would make the animal inedible. You're basically putting toxins and poisons into their veins and inside their body. You wouldn't want to eat that, of course.



Most local farms probably treat their animals better than factory farms do, but animal exploitation is still animal exploitation. As a vegan, I would not eat meat, eggs, or dairy, regardless of how the animals were raised. That's the difference between animal rights and animal welfare - Animal rights advocates do not want animals to be exploited at all, while animal welfare advocates want animals to be exploited "humanely." As for protein, you probably get more than you need without even trying, unless you're not consuming enough calories. Most people overestimate their protein needs and/or underestimate their protein intake. If you're concerned, see a dietitian.



An animal that died of natural causes would not be fit to consume. So no, I would not eat the meat.

I'm not even going to touch on the fact that killing something is in itself violent. You cannot drug an animal to kill it and then expect to be able to eat the meat.

Seriously, though, you need to eat according to your own health and moral standards, and not worry about what other people do or think (well, within the law, anyway; cannibalism is right out). If you think it's wrong, then don't do it. One can easily get protein from plant sources.

I would never be able to eat meat if I raised the animal myself. I'm the sort of person who worries about the health of the chicks in the robins' nest in my tree, and the rabbits that live under my porch.



I wouldn't. I wouldn't eat animals unless I were starving or something.

But hey if you're going to eat meat, it's good to be conscientious about where you're getting it from. Buying from local, small farms, is a lot better than buying factory farmed meat.



The animals never die of natural causes. If they did, they wouldn't be used. It's not hard to get protein as a vegetarian. You just need to do your research.



It wouldn't be vegetarian, but it's definitely more ethical than the alternative. This is how I plan to raise my children (unless they decide to go veg*n, of course.)
