Generally, your diet shouldn't be more than 30% protein. More than that can cause stress on your kidneys and other organs. If you exercise on a regular basis, you will probably be ok increasing your protein intake above 30%. Everybody's different.
If you don't eat too many calories you won't overeat on protein either, unless you are using protein powder which isn't very good for you anyway.
