How would you feel about (For Vegans and Vegetarians!)?!

Question: How would you feel about (For Vegans and Vegetarians!)?
If you got invited to a meat eaters home for dinner. They were going to make you a nice vegetarian/vegan meal, your favorite meal. But they were going to serve it on plates that once had meat on it. There forks/knives had been used to eat meat for years. They were clean, perfectly clean and sterile, but you know that they were dug/carved/cut/stabbed into meat for many years before this meal.

Just wondering, would you eat there still, or back out because of that? Or would you insist on bringing your own plates/utensils??

(This question is not meant to insult anyone, im just really wondering!)

As long as the plates and utensils are clean, I have no problem.

I wouldn't say that I'm vegetarian but I probably could since I barely eat meat to begin with.
My choice of not eating meat is because it is expensive and most of the time I prefer veggies.

I wouldn't have a problem with eating my veggie meal on their plates. I imagine that people who are vegans or vegetarians because they don't like the idea of how the animals are treated. People who are vegan or vegetarian because they want to for health reasons may not have a problem with it.

The utensils/plates wouldn't bother me.

However, I have been invited and gone to many omnivores homes for a meal... I don't know any veg*ns in real life. Although the gesture to cook a vegan dish just for me would be appreciated, I would cook my own dish and bring enough for all to enjoy. I wouldn't want someone to go out of their way for me. Also partly because of ingredients and confusion, partly because it is just how I am and always have been.
I help out and bring appetizers, a side dish or dessert (sometimes a couple things) when I am invited for a meal to show appreciation to the host and I am well aware cooking a large meal can be overwhelming as well as the fact that I know food isn't free, especially for a crowd.

I have no issue eating with forks, knives, plates, etc that once had meat on them as long as they are clean(especially if they are sterile). The silverware does not hold some type of imprint from what has been eaten.

I suppose there may be some hard core people that would prefer to not use plates, knives, forks, etc, but they are probably in the minority. I would probably be very hard to eat anywhere but in your own home if your preferences were as such.

I would still go. My entire family eats meat. I use the same plates and utensils that they use. Restaurants use the same plates and utensils for everyone. It would seem a bit extreme not to go to someone's house for dinner just because the plate you would be eating from had meat on it before it was washed.
Also, they're already being great for specifically making a vegan meal. Expecting them to go and buy new dishes is complete ludacris and very ungrateful.

vegan :D

The plates have been cleaned, so they don't have meat on them any more. What's the problem supposed to be? Even if my plate did have meat on it, it honestly wouldn't bother me, I just wouldn't eat it. We walk on ground that might have once had dead animals on it, but that doesn't mean we were involved in their demise. The same goes for plates and cutlery.

Utensils and plates don't have memories. If they're washed its fine. I mean bad things happen everywhere, do you not think anyone died, including native americans and soldiers, on the ground your house is on? Or a friends house you've stayed at? Do you not eat at restaurants?

I'd go. If the dishes are clean, and the food is vegan, why should I pass it up? Pretty much every plate and utensil in my house has been used for meat, considering my parents are omnivores. I make sure the stuff I want to use is clean and then I'm fine eating off it.

There is no "memory" inside eating utensils, and refusing to use their plates and utensils is akin to superstition and might make you look a little looney. Of course, they'll just blame your diet.

I'd use the utensils given. They've been properly cleaned, and if they've gone to the trouble of making a meal specifically for me, I'd be pleased and thankful. Not everyone will do that. It sucks when you have to always bring stuff for yourself.

i am a vegan vegetarian.
i wouldent care if they were used to eat meat preveously. i wouldnt want to eat it if the silverware and plates wernt properly cleaned.

well i'm trying to be vegetarian and my familys silverware has had meat on it but what am i supposed to do eat with my fingers? it's anybody's choice whether they want meat or not, no big deal

I'm a vegan, not a superstitious loon. I eat with the same knives, forks, plates and bowls my family has been having meat with for twenty years.

you said that they weren't dirty so i wouldn't care. most of my family eats meat so when i visit i know it happens but it doesn't bother me in the least.

So long as they were washed, I'd use them. I grew up sharing dishes with my meat-eating family, so I don't see why I'd make a big deal of it.

It wouldn't at all. If there was a blood sauce underneath the yummy veggies then ya it would be gross.

Vegetarian

since hypothetically its all sterile clean i wouldnt fuss haha

vegan

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as they were clean and didn't still have meat on them or anything.

good

nice

I asked a similar question before I opened my restaurant a while back. I asked if vegetarians (not vegans) would find it offensive if pots/pans/plates/utensils even napkins were once used for non vegetarian meals. The overwhelming response, from both vegetarians and vegans was as along as they were washed properly, they would have no objection to it. However, in order to avoid any potential problems, just like the one you asked about, we separated all into their own "categories" so that even the sinks where they are washed are separate. The food prep area is of course separate (not only because of lifestyle concerns but also for sanitation/hygiene purposes). However, a home may not have the same resources or luxury as a restaurant/business does.

I even asked if vegans would object to sitting on leather chairs.

uh oh... ms multiple account is here.. more than 2 accounts answering and voting already

It's an interesting question because my friends who are jewish have separate knives for dairy, meat, and other stuff( not sure exactly) but I think it's more for religious regions about the animals and stuff.
I am a vegetarian and I really hate it when I go to people's houses and they use a spoon to stir up the meat and use the same one for my meal, but I live with it because I don't want them to think i'm rude if I refuse their meal, after all, they are making it for me!
But with your question, if the stuff hasn't actually touched the meat recently and is clean and disinfected, then I, personally, am perfectly fine using their utensils and plates, I mean, as other people have said, they have no memory on what they have done, and to be honest, i'd rather not take a chance with some people thinking im weird :S

Anyone who would refuse to use those plates and utensils would seriously need a slap upside the head and a major-a$$ reality check.
