Do boarding schools accommodate vegans?!

Question: Do boarding schools accommodate vegans?
I really want to get into a boarding high school, but I am a vegan. My parents are worried that the high schools won't accept me because they would have to deal with me and prepare special food. I know for a fact there are vegetarians at these schools, so all they would have to do is take out the dairy and eggs from the main vegetarian meal. I would also be able to educate people about vegans and be an inspiration. Has anyone gotten into a tough boarding school while being a vegan? Does anyone work with a high school admission office? Other advice or knowledge is welcome. And no, I do not want to go back to being a vegetarian. I had to have salad for Thanksgiving.

Thanks in advance.

High schools do accommodate, but Boarding Schools since they are not (public) do not have to serve vegetarian food. You will have to ask the school if they allow it. The Boarding schools I have substituted at only serve two different meals.

I think that won't be a problem. Teens are developing lifelong habits in nutrition. A school that pays attention to their nutritional needs is preparing teens for more than a life of eating well. And I think this is the aim of a boarding school. Proper teen nutrition ensures that their brains and bodies function well, building a foundation for adulthood that will serve them for the rest of their lives, so being a vegan won't be a problem.

The boarding school I went to was horrible for this...there was meat in every meal pretty much, I ate from the salad bar, fruit, bread, rice and pasta but there was NOT a good variety of options .

However, it probably varies from school to school.
Also a boarding school can't reject you because of your diet. That's illegal. They might have a "sucks for you" attitude at meal times, though.

I didn't go to boarding school, but the commons at my college is very accommodating. Next time you take a tour of the school, ask to speak with the chef, and ask them if they will be able to accommodate you.

It probably won't be a problem, but talk to the school about it during the application process..
