How come fiber can't be left in juice or smoothies?!

Question: How come fiber can't be left in juice or smoothies?
How come juices and smoothies can't be made with the skin on? Can't a company throw a whole apple in a machine to make juice. Wouldn't that leave the fiber in?

if you make it and don't strain it then you'll have as much fiber as you like. :)

You *do* throw in the whole apple, skin and all. However, the solid fibres of the fruits (the genuine "fiber" itself) is indeed left out... it can't be broken down into liquid form in the juicers. Juicing is simply about extracting the nutrient-rich juices from fruits and veggies and drinking that.

Smoothies on the other hand, contain whole fruits that have been blended down into goo (yummy tasting goo)... so the apple skins/etc that you throw in are indeed included, as is all of the pulp of the fruit. There's a TON of fiber in smoothies, based on this alone.

Hi Linda, If you look around you can find juices with fiber, and quite a lot that are made from concentrate have at least some in them. One reason is that people just don't want to drink things with bits. They are now used to their sweet drinks (coke etc) with no roughage in them. I hope this helps, all the best. Rab

problem solved.. it really IS that simple.

(and if you buy from a company??? most likely it's not vegetarian.... common sense folks.. )

there's a plentitude of smoothie blenders and juicers out there... buy them!
