I'm a vegan and eat very healthily, but should I try to have more fat in my diet?!

Question: I'm a vegan and eat very healthily, but should I try to have more fat in my diet?
I'm a vegan, and the only fat I eat is a small handful of nuts every couple of days.
The rest of the time I eat a lot of beans, vegetables, grains etc, but nothing else really with any fat in it. I know fat is an important nutrient, am I getting enough?

Should I try to get more fat in my diet?

Answers:

Yes, you definitely should include more fat in your diet. Cook with ghee, use butter on your veggies, fry food in coconut oil which is a very stable fat. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil on your salad.
Fat is a very important nutrient - it helps you absorb fat -soluble vitamins like A, D and E from all the other foods that you are eating.
Especially when you plan to have kids, do not forget about including lots of healthy fats!

Maybe? It's hard to say just with the handful of items you mention. Not only that, but how you cook them also makes a difference. For example, any kind of stirfry basically requires some oil to be present in the pan, so that likely makes up for any fat lacking in the other ingredients. You could also seek out some fatty vegetables/fruits like avocados. Or make a pesto with a hefty bit of olive oil. Hummus can also be made with a decent amount of fat.

Olive oil & balsamic vinegar as a salad dressing might help. Everyone needs balance in their diet. Oils are essential - yes. Also the vinegar is important for the acidic qualities. Olive, peanut oils in small qualities during the week may be helpful. Also fish oils - omega 3 as a supplement seems to work for many people.

Most food pyramids suggest 2-3 servings of fat a day.

If you go on whfoods.com, just type in an oil or nut, and it will show you studies, a nutritional profile, etc. Nuts, seeds, and oils have some pretty good stuff, so I would say have 1 or 2 servings a day.
It's not that hard- almond butter on toast, walnuts in oatmeal, stir-fries in olive oil.

Meat is really important without meat in your diet it's really unhealthy because it will stunt your growth and it is really important to eat meat while you are pregnant or your baby will die from not getting enough nutrition and you won't get the same nutrition from eating meat.
