Where is all this food going?!


Question: Where is all this food going?
Ok I am 15 5'5 and 90 pounds and recovering from anorexia. My dietician has put me on a high calorie meal plan and I am eating so so so much but I've only gained 1/2 in 2 weeks. I mean, I'm not peeing or pooping any more than I was before so where is the weight of all this food going???

I'm no expert but I'm willing to bet that it's turning into either muscle or fat.

You may have been so severely underweight and undernourished that your body is still recovering the lost body mass when you were anorexic. Think of yourself as a deflated balloon (not very flattering I know) but slowly filling up air. It may take time before you get the real shape/weight that is ideal but you will eventually get there. Don't get discouraged, just be patient.

The food is probably helping your nutrition starved body replace muscle and other things it needs.
You should probably discuss your symptoms with your Dr. or dietitian, they could give you a more professional answer.
You should be good if you weigh around 120-130 pounds. Any gain is good and your diet is probably calorie dense, but not fat dense. You should ask them if you can add any other extra food if it make you feel better.



your body is a big energy consumer in general, and does what other fuel burners do - burn the fuel (food) and give up heat (and in our case sweat too). so, yes, everything you eat will not go and "sit" in your body... and eating 5 lbs of food will not mean you will be 5lb heavier... your body is a complex system.

But, over time, your body will recover from the anorexia and start gaining muscle mass and then add some body mass.... all of which is fine.



What are you eating? How many calories? Are you keeping a food diary to tell how much you're really eating? Anorexia is tough to beat. With your history, I'd question if you're eating as much as you think you're eating, since you're not gaining weight.
