Is whey from milk vegetarian or is it still an animal bi product?

Whey is a by-product of cheese making. It is formed when the curds separate from the milk or cream. After the cheese curds are formed, the remaining liquid is called whey. I guess you would call this a bi product depending on how strict you are.

It is vegetarian - when you mix milk with an acid like lemon juice or vinegar it separates into curds and whey. You use curds to make cheese. The whey is the liquidy part that's left behind. You need to be a bit careful if you're looking at whey protein powders or bars though in case they also contain non-vegetarian ingredients - many say suitable for vegetarians on them so I go for those. Hope that helps xx

It's the liquid portion of milk. It definitely comes from the cow.
