Is it bad if your vegetarian and you eat a veggie burger?!

Question: Is it bad if your vegetarian and you eat a veggie burger?
I've been told that the point was to stop eating meat. And a burger is a food used with meat. Eating a veggie burger portrays meat. And that there would be no point at eating a veggie burger. Opinions?

what would be wrong? its your decision what you put inside yourself and how it comes - Dont listen to any one else totally your decision - I have been veggie all my life & what I choose to eat is my own affair You just have to find your own boundary about food and stick to it for yourself otherwise you'd go mad with everything everyone says.

No, it is not bad if you are a vegetarian and you eat a veggie burger.
If the veggie burger is legitimately a "veggie" burger, then it is 100% vegetarian.
Unless you are a vegan and the burger contains milk or egg products, a veggie burger is perfectly okay to eat!
That is why veggie burgers are made. Whether you are a vegetarian for your health or for morals, a veggie burger is a fine food choice.
Veggie burgers may portray meat, but they are not. And no matter how many veggie burgers you eat, you still haven't eaten meat.
The point of eating veggie burgers is to fill yourself up and get some protein that you may not be getting from veggies alone. The point is, if the veggie burger tastes good to you, then eat it!
If you eat a veggie burger, you are not supporting the meat industry. You are also not consuming animal flesh.

I have been a vegetarian for four years.

Eating cookies shaped like Santa or the Christmas tree does not make one a cannibal or a tree cutter!
Point is, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

You could call it burger, cutlet, a disc of mixed vegetables, a patty of soy whatever. The point is as long as it has no meat in it, vegetarians can and will eat it and it is not bad at all. Same goes for the millionth time asked question on yahoo answers about vegetarians and animal crackers.

Burgers, sausages etc are just a convenient way of packaging and serving protein. Eating veggie burgers isn't 'pining for meat', it's just the same convenient way of serving protein, only vegetarian.

You might as well argue that we shouldn't be eating curry or lasagne because they often come as meat dishes. I eat the same stuff everyone else does, I just don't eat meat.

Simples!

It's not wrong to eat veggie burgers as a vegetarian. I'm a vegan, and I love veggie burgers! I don't like that they look and kind of feel like meat, but they taste good with ketchup and mustard, and they're easy to cook up especially when you're at a barbecue or something and everyone else is eating hamburgers.

There's nothing in a veggie burger that's used with the ground beef that's known as a hamburger. A veggie burger, especially one that is home made, in NO way portrays meat!! Packaging or advertising certainly never claim it's just like eating a hamburger. It portrays eating veggies on a roll! Almost as silly... if you eat one of those bright yellow marshmallow treats ("peeps") shaped like a baby chick, does that mean you're eating chicken? Of course not. Or what about gummy bears? They are candy shaped like bears.

I guess I wonder that same thing. Why, if people are so opposed to meat, do so many vegetarian foods try so hard to copy the flavor, texture and look of meat?

You asked a great question!

Veggie burgers are cheap, full of protien, low in fat (usually), and all u have to do is pop it in the microwave if your on the go.
what could be bad about that?

No it's not bad only extreme veggies would think that. If you don't believe in eating meat and you're not eating meat then how can you be a walking advert for McDonalds?

many vegetarians don't eat meat for ethical reasons
many miss the taste, texture, smell, etc... so they eat meat substitutes.

Being vegetarian just means that you don't eat meat.

What your food looks like or tastes like doesn't matter, as long as it's not meat. Some veggie burgers taste nothing like meat anyway.

Get it?

I completely disagree with that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating a veggie burger.

you can always tell the difference...there's nothing wrong with it
