"The word 'veganism' denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practical — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, including humans and the environment.
In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
Basically those are the rules. The correct definition as defined by Donald Watson, the founder of the first Vegan Society and the inventor of the word vegan.
Basically some key things to always note is ingredient labels, always check them sometimes double check them, know what the ingredients are. If you don't know what something is and it is not certified vegan don't bother with it till you know exactly what it is. Avoid PVCs and other pleathers as they due more harm to the environment then they could ever do good, find natural sustainable materials and obviously avoid animals. Look at what you are doing within your own life with animals and work to create a better relationship that sees animals as beings not as property. Don't be afraid to stick up for animals at any point even if the chips might be stacked against you. Animals need our help and need us too be vegan.
vegan because animals are not property
A vegan does not eat, wear, use, or buy animals or anything that comes from an animal.
That means no meat, fish, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy, honey, leather, fur, suede, wool, reptile skin, or any hygiene product that has animal ingredients in it.
I am not a vegan, but I do know that it is a healthy diet and the food tastes great.
The key to being a vegan is knowing how to cook.
Most places don't serve vegan products, so you have to know how to prepare most of your foods.
However, there are many vegan products from Boca, Moriningstar Farms, Lightlife, Yves, Tofurky, Amy's Kitchen, and Tofutti that are out there. You can find these products at a whole food store/health food store or a mainstream supermarket like Pathmark, Stop & Shop, or Shop Rite.
Vegetarian
As mentioned above, an overhaul of your diet is necessary, as well as your perspective on life. Veganism is not a diet, it's a lifestyle and it affects all parts of your life. So, in addition to what you put in your body, be aware of what you put on your body by the means of skin care products which could contain animal by-products, or what was tested on animals. Additionally, be careful in what clothing you wear. I found this article helpful in finding vegan clothing.

Vegans do NOT eat any food that comes from animals, they do NOT wear or use any animal products. so just dont use, wear, eat, etc anything that comes from animals.
