You generally don't feed a chicken daily like you would a dog or cat. You fill up a container meant to hold food for at least a few days if not a week or more (shouldn't be hard for just one chicken) and it will eat until it's content. They also like to simply scratch around and look for food, but it also could be it's looking for grit and it's finding some small rocks in the carpet. As to why you would keep a chicken in a carpeted area I have no idea, but you'll probably figure out pretty soon that you can't treat it like a typical pet in the case of a dog or cat. It sounds more like inadequate living conditions if you're keeping it inside your house and letting it roam about your living room / carpeted areas.

Raised chickens for 15 years.

You should probably just leave out food and water for it all the time. Like cats, chickens prefer to eat throughout the day, not just at one or two set times.

Also, chickens instinctively try to peck the ground/carpet to find bugs or worms or other things of that nature, that's just what chickens do.

Leave out plenty of chicken feed and fresh water. Since chickens also tend to poop a lot, I hope you aren't letting it wander around the house, it could get messy.

I think you misjudged the amount of food your chicken requires. Try increasing the amount of food you give him daily, or change the type of food, and see what that does. Good luck!

You need to find out more about what your chicken needs to stay happy and healthy.
