Why do you think 98% of the population continues to eat meat?!

Question: Why do you think 98% of the population continues to eat meat?
It's much easier to be vegetarian these days. Since most vegetarians eat eggs and dairy, almost every major restaurant has vegetarian options. The supermarket shelves and freezers are stocked with vegetarian items. Why do you think the vegetarian diet hasn't caught on more with the public?

Expense?
Taste?
Extra time to balance the diet?

Answers:

Because most people understand how the world works, they understand nature. In nature every living life form lives at the expense of another life form. Animals eat animals, it's just natures way. And humans are also animals. And Humans are also omnivores, this is a fact and not up for debate. Humans eating animals is as natural as breathing air and most people realize this. That is why most people on Earth eat meat.

It's not that it isn't easy, it's just that we don't care. I'll set aside the fact that almost all vegans I've ever met look malnourished, but I really don't care about the suffering of animals; nobody has ever been able to explain to me in an empirical sense why I should care about the pain of an animal that only has a fraction of the mental and cognitive power that we do, aside from saying "it's just the right thing to do" which to me isn't an explanation at all really. The world has always been built on this sort of predator/prey hierarchy and trying to pretend that it doesn't shows a very poor understanding of how nature works. Also I could go into all the logical problems that we would face if we stopped eating meat; we'd have to keep killing animals anyway to prevent overpopulation (overpopulation of deer causes more fatal car accidents, etc).

It is out of common ignorance, widely accepted and forced prejudices, and lack of ethical and nutritional education that so many people consume meat regardless of it's negative environmental and moral implications.

I don't take health/nutrition into such major account as many others though, as an omnivore can easily be far healthier than a vegan and vice versa, but primitive superstitions such as "humans need meat and dairy products for survival and to be healthy" would need to be scrutinized and laid to rest in order for vegetarianism/veganism lifestyles to be adopted as a majority.

I think its mainly taste, culture, and habit. I'll use myself as an example. I agree 100% with the idea of being vegetarian, or even vegan for that matter. But when I go to the market, I only know how to cook a handful of things that I know will taste good. Almost all of them include meat. So, rather than take the time to learn to cook something vegetarian at the risk of it tasting bad, I just go with what I know. Same goes for restaurants. Sure, they have vegetarian options, but when you compare those options to a new york strip or BBQ chicken, they just sound lame. Does this make me a bad person? Yes. But at least I'm not alone.

We evolved as hunters for millions of years, and modern science is now realizing meat is perfectly healthy, and not a factor in diseases as some people erroneously think.

You mention the "extra time to balance the diet". Do you think our prehistoric ancestors knew how to do that? No, they didn't.

Hi, I've actually wondered this too. Part of it will be convenience and habit, but I think it mainly comes down to the fact that they like it.

I'm sure they're not thrilled about the fact animals have to die for it, but they enjoy it too much to let that stop them.

The reality is we only get one life, and they probably don't want to spend theirs depriving themselves of the food they like.

Vegan

For the same reason the vast majority of humanity thinks there's a man in the sky watching them:
they were raised that way, and don't bother to critically examine much.

probably taste and fear of trying something new. veg*nism is also pretty stereotyped in the western world, so that might be a reason too.

Tradition, taste, the fear of being isolated as a veggie, etc...

vegan

Definitely taste

Used to be a non-vegetarian

It's probably largely habit. "But we've always done this."

Because they don't really have a sufficiently good reason NOT to eat meat.

Taste and satiety

it tastes good, however the trend is going vegan, i dont eat red meat and chicken, more or less fish is da only meat, i am semi vegan. my friends herself a vegan, but she eats dairy products, so she is really not a true vegan

Because they're greedy, they dont care about the environment, they dont care about animals and they dont care about thier health.

The Good Lord designed people to be omnivorous so we need and like meat as part of a healthy diet.

we need meat from cows in order to gain muscle mass, without it then we'd have little or no protein.. an egg is only a small amount and not everyone likes eggs.

because no one wants to survive on kelp and tofu a nice big juicy steak is what most people prefer
