if a vegan could explain why, I mean its just so not right if your a vegan then why used a fake substitute? perhaps there's some logic in this just not quite there myself. ta.

Answers:

ok so i get that vegans or vegetarians eat that fake meat. especially for those who have just converted. and as far as the come dine with me thing is all about, i guess if you are vegan you would cook as per your beliefs even if you are feeding meat eaters, and by the way they are guests so they should just accept it. as far as many of the vegetarians have answered this question, i find you not only ignorant but insulting. I am a professional chef and i know the process of the commercial meat system. how dare you all say you don't wish to cause animals harm etc etc because try learning how animals are in fact slaughtered before making wild accusations.

Fake meats exist for the same reasons diet sodas exist. People want "the good stuff" but have to compromise a little so they don't feel guilty (whether it be for eating too much sugar or contributing to animal cruelty.) Most vegetarians and vegans ate meat for at least part of their lives, and sometimes they miss it. Substitutes are an easy way to cater to your taste buds without infringing on your ethics. I personally don't care for them, but as long as they're made of wholesome ingredients I don't see the problem.

That video has been blocked in my country.

Hi, vegans are aiming to minimize their contribution to animal suffering. Some of them used to genuinely enjoy the taste of meat, but they have made a decision not to eat it for ethical reasons.
Using fake meat means they can enjoy the meals they used to like, but without any animals having to be hurt for them to do so.

Because meatless chik'n nuggets and riblets are TASTY! I'm not vegetarian because I hate meat...I'm vegetarian because I want to do my part to save the planet, to reduce carbon emissions, and to improve my health.

Obviously it's unwise to base your diet on these meatless alternatives (they're SUPER high in sodium and filled with almost as much crap as the animal-based varieties), but it's fun to have an occasional, cruelty-free indulgence.

I'm a vegetarian who loves Boca, Quorn, etc :D

im a vegetarian and we do love our vecan (veggie bacon) and fake meat- yeah it is kinda weird that we would eat that stuff but in my case and in the case of many other vegans and vegetarians, we have not given up meat cuz we dont like the taste but because we dont want to harm animals, it is bad for the environment etc. i love meat and found it hard to give up, so fake meat? why not! if its a good kind then it will taste amazing and be healthier then normal meat! yay! :)

Yeah it is beyond me, same goes for non alcoholic drinks, if I am not drinking a nice Orange and Lemonade will do me.

It must make them happy eating something that looks like meat but it is not meat!! They protest so much about meat so why don't they just create their own stuff and call it accordingly!!

for protien. I think the fake meats are made to look and taste real for the people who are first starting to become veg. the people who are already veg don't really care if the stuff looks like meat or not. As long as it tastes good we dont care

A vegan isn't a vegan because they don't like meat/eggs/cheese/milk etc. It's an ethical choice. But they want to have a varied and tasty diet..
A vegan diet is a very boring diet.
I know because my youngest son has been vegan for 5 yrs.

Because in the fake meat, there's no product of slaughter and it is guilt-free (for those compassionate enough to understand things) alternative to a taste they might've grown up on.

Vegan

It's really just a source of proteins. And by the way those fake meats taste pretty good, so why not?
They may be named after something bad or disgusting to a vegan, but the ingredients are what really matters.

I watched that & you're right, it seems totally incongruous! I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I think she ought to have either prepared the real chicken or else had no 'meat'.

because they get bored of eating veggies lol :)
