Opinion on vegetarian guys?!

Question: Opinion on vegetarian guys?
Im 16,and a vegetarian.Today me and some friends were talking about how none of us know a vegetarian guy.

If I found out a guy in my class or something was vegetarian,it would make me like them just that little bit more, knowing they are empathetic and confident enough to stand up for what they believe in.I know a lot of my girl-friends feel the same way.

However,if a guy found out their mate was veg, they would probably make fun of them for it.So i would just like to know everyones opinions on why this could be?

Thanks x

Well, I'm a vegetarian guy, so I'm probably biased, but I reckon we're ok. (-:

I went veggie at about 19, and wasn't a big meat-eater before then anyway. I got some stick from my friends for about five minutes, till they realised I wasn't rising to it and got bored. Bottom line is, it not really anyone else's business what I do or don't choose to eat, any more than their diet is my concern. My current partner is an omnivore.

To whoever said that they'd met preachy vegetarians, I'm sorry you've had bad experiences, but we're not all like that honest.

I'm a vegan guy, and im sure if guys knew skipping meat could impress you, they might be willing to try. Honestly, if you are hot, you might be able to convince a few guys in your class to drop meat just to get a chance with you. Would open up your chances of getting a date you like, and start a few people into vegetarianism at the same time. Win win. Just let them know, and maybe they will try it, or you may find a hidden veg guy.

you girls dont always have to be so secretive lmao.

Well, I'd be a bit nervous around a vegetarian guy. I mean, I respect it if he doesn't eat meat, but I've met vegetarian guys, even vegan guys, and they can be critical if you eat meat. I'd feel less attractive eating a lovely cheeseburger if all he's going to have is a salad.

Not that I think vegetarian guys are girly. Some are rather fit!

I totally agree with Spiderman 4. Most 16 yr old boys I know are immature and anything that differs from the 'norm' in their eyes is open to mockery. Not much changes when they get older either- a sweeping statement I know. It takes a strong character to stand out from the crowd in a group of young men. Women are more empathetic.
There is NOTHING wrong with being vegetarian-stand up for yourselves guys!

'However,if a guy found out their mate was veg, they would probably make fun of them for it.So i would just like to know everyones opinions on why this could be?'

They think it's 'gay' if a guy doesn't eat meat.. like he's all sensitive about animals when I guess men are supposed to love steak beer and hotdogs or something lol.

I'm lucky enough to be engaged to a Vegan. I have dated meat eaters in the past and it was horrible, being ridiculed for my beliefs by someone who is supposed to be my partner. If my partner and I break up I will only date vegetarians or vegans from now on. It's a beautiful thing to be able to discuss my beliefs and find new vegan recipes and restaurants together :)

i agree with you. infact, my male friend, when he was at uni, would sometimes just eat veggie food as it was often easier/cheaper and he said his friends would say 'be a man, put some meat in there!' etc etc. so stupid! i know a few male veggies and a couple of male vegans. i find it very sexy as it shows they're compassionate. we need more male veggies! i hate men who have to prove their masculinity by going on about how 'you can't beat a bit of steak!' what's with that!!

Eating meat is only popularized because it's where the cash is for a certain group of select people. Vegetarians and Vegans have higher and steadier testosterone rates over time, the thing that actually makes them male. They don't need Low T shots when they get old.

Vegan

yay vegetarians! being a big strong carnivore is commercialized to be more socially acceptable. I don't think it should be treated as a big deal, but of course, people automatically shun any behavior that is remotely different from that which they are comfortable with.

I'm thirteen and a vegitarian
if a guy was veg I'd be more atracted to him unless he was a jerk but if he was nice and ate meat I'd still be fine with it

Tomarrow I'll have been veg for two years!

Guy vegetarians are awesome, although there aren't enough of them. The only male "vegetarians" I met turned out to eat chicken, fish, etc.

I'm a vegetarian, and hope when I get married it's to a vegetarian. (:

Vegetarians are very rare and hard to find... You can find them if you go to Asian countries I think...

One of my best guy friends is a vegetarian, and I know a few more. I think it's pretty cool.

Why this could be?

Several contributing factors.

Immaturity springs to mind first of all. We're talking about 16 year old boys here. Think about it. How many boys of that age do you know who are genuinely mature? Some are mature by the time they're about 18, but 25 is much more common, and some will never grow up.

Machismo contributes too. Boys (and most men) in general will try their damnedest to appear tougher than they really are, and hide any possible sign of weakness or empathy or sentimentality or anything else considered even remotely un-masculine, for fear of peer ridicule. They can certainly feel it, but they sure as hell cannot show it in front of their friends.

The other main factor is the "pick on whoever is different in some way" syndrome. If anyone is in some sort of minority - whether it be skin colour, religion, nationality, accent, sexual preference, dietary preference, political persuasion, clothing style, hair style, favourite sporting team, whatever - then there's a strong chance that they are going to get picked on at some stage of their lives. Even more so amongst teenage boys.

Vegan. (Vegetarian from 14.)

Vegetarians are seen as weak because they dont eat meat. Men are supposed to be tough as the meat they eat and squeeze into a glass. Women are supposed to be soft. Most vegetarians are girls. So if a guy is a vegetarian and girls are seen as the primary vegans............

Used to be a vegan

Im confident enough to stand up for what i believe in. I believe in eating meat. So that means you are a doofus.
