I'm cutting out fish?!

Question: I'm cutting out fish?
I've been pescetarian for 10 years, now I want to give up fish, which is a big part of my diet. How can I get around this? I like Quorn, but I want plenty of variety as well. I'm big on vegetables, I'm just worried about the protein.

Answers:

Hi, legumes (such as beans), whole-grains (like rice or brown bread),nuts+seeds, tofu, soya products and even vegetables all contain protein.

The fact you eat a lot of vegetables is great and will help with the protein.

Having a lot of meals with beans and whole grains is the easiest (and cheapest!) way to get more protein in your diet. These can be things like bean curry with brown rice, kidney bean chili with a jacket potato, or any bean added to pasta with tomato sauce.

Snacking on nuts is also a simple way to get protein it. They also contain a lot of Omega 3 which can replace the Omega 3 you used to get through fish.

Protein deficiency is extremely rare these days so as long as you're eating a healthy, balanced diet you should be fine.

Good luck.

Beans are a good source of protein, esp. in combination with rice, corn, or another grain..

Good decision.

Rice, beans and pasta are good foods with protein.

Have fun not eating a great natural food that not only tastes good, but provides Omega 3 fatty acids, protein, vitamins, and minerals. My advice to get around this is to keep eating fish.
