Spinach leaves vs. lettuce?!

Question: Spinach leaves vs. lettuce?
When I eat salad that I make myself, I personally prefer to use spinach leaves instead of lettuce, so that my salad is composed of spinach leaves, cut cherry tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil as a dressing. I just prefer the taste. Is using spinach leaves less healthy than using lettuce? More healthy? The same? Please let me know!

P.S. It doesn't make a huge difference; just if it's less healthy I'll probably start mixing lettuce and spinach leaves into my salads.

Yes, Spinach is healthier for you than Iceberg Lettuce. Spinach contains Iron and Calcium that your body needs. Really, any dark colored green such as Spinach, Collards, Romaine, Swiss Chard, etc, is good for you. Iceberg Lettuce contains mostly water, it's water densed. It contains no nutritional value.

It depends on what kind of lettuce it is; spinach leaves are a lot healthier than iceberg and romaine.

Basically, the darker the color, the more nutrients it has, but darker greens also tend to be a bit more bitter--a quality that a lot of people don't like, which is why blanched, flavorless greens like iceberg were developed in the first place.

But of course, the fresher they are, the better. The longer a bunch of greens sits around, the more nutrients it loses. So you might pick lettuce if its fresher. And both need to be thoroughly washed before using.

Keep using your spinach leaves.

Spinach is more healthy by a lot. Read the package for nutrition content. Iceberg lettuce like most of us use and a lot of restaurants use has very little food value. You would have to eat 10 cups of lettuce to get the same value of 1 cup spinach

Yes. It is healthier. Spinach is a good source of iron and calcium, where lettuce doesn't have as many nutrients. It's mostly water. So good for you for choosing the better option for your salads.

Spinach is better for you. Lettuce, esp. iceberg lettuce is almost a non-food. But you might want to try other dark green leafy vegetables for variety, such as: kale, Swiss chard, beet greens, collard greens, etc..

Spinach has much more vit and minerals than Lettuce. The darker the green the healthier the green. Lettuce is made up of mostly water.

Yummy, I want that salad now.
Spinach!
