ARE BUNNIES GOOD TO EAT?!

Question: ARE BUNNIES GOOD TO EAT?
ARE BUNNIES GOOD TO EAT AND MORE AFFORDABLE TO BUY? IS THERE ANY MONEY IN BREEDING FOR FOOD OR PETS?

Answers:

you will not make much of a profit of breeding for food or for pets, however you can raise good rabbit meat for yourself very cheaply. Buying rabbit meat is pretty expensive seeing that it is rather hard to find. In America few people eat rabbit because they associate it with cute bunnies, but it is one of the most healthiest meats you can have. rabbits need little room and feed and will quickly produce lots of offspring. They reach slaughter age before they are even weaned so the young do not need extra housing. like people said domestic rabbits do not taste as good as wild rabbits which probably has something to do with the commercial pellets they are feed. the more natural the feed the better tasting the rabbit so its good to feed them some greens along with the rabbit pellets and hay.
By the way, totally wrong section lol
edit:
New Zealand are the most commonly raised meat rabbits. they are a white rabbit so the pelts can be sold commercially or you could use them yourself. they have the best feed to meat conversion meaning they take the least amount of feed to produce a good rabbit. Californians and floridas are the next most popular and are a lot like the new zealands. then their are some heritage breeds that take slower to grow and require more feed, but they make a more meat and colored pelts.
the albc has info on these breeds

you will want to buy the rabbits at a good rabbitry. then breed your rabbits when they reach sexual maturity. All most all rabbits are raised in cages stacked on top of each other. I have never raised rabbits before but am planning on starting this spring. Im not going to start with cages but instead raise them in pens on pasture. this way they will provide most of their own feed from the grass (tastier meat) and have more room.
You will get better answers if you ask this in the agriculture section, mostly its just people telling you not to murder the rabbits in this section :)
i find it pretty rude that some people are giving anyone who eats rabbit a thumbs down just because they do not support eating meat.
Their are a lot of methods to make a profit of rabbits but it will take a while before you will actually start to make money. The best advise I can give you is to start off with really good rabbits (especially the buck) because this will determine all your rabbits that follow. don't go for cheap rabbits, buy the best rabbits you can afford (although expensive does not always mean better) and really look at those rabbits records
you can sell live rabbits for someone else to butcher and keep the meat
butcher the rabbits yourself and sell the meat
sell good quality breeder rabbits to people
sell pet rabbits to pet shops
sell angora rabbit wool to hand spinning
sell live or dead baby rabbits (called kits) to pet shops to feed snakes (personally I find very this cruel)
got2dance: i definitely agree with you. I think it is wrong for people to eat chicken but not rabbits because they are too cute. If someone doesn't like eating rabbits I think they should become a vegetarian

I am a vegetarian and do you know what I don't understand? Why do many meat eaters eat so much chicken and cow and pig but think it is disgusting to eat a rabbit or any other exotic meat product, I mean, they all have the same feelings and stuff, people are just cruel to birds because think bunnies are cute.

And my mom grew up in the country and her dad hunted bunnies with dogs... and she ate them all the time so yeah I guess they are good but I am a long time vegetarian so I don't know. But I wouldn't suggest it because many people like the hipocrits I mentioned above who think it is cruel to eat bunnies but eat chickens all the time hate the thought of rabbit meat :) so yeah it is not a very big industry.
That's what you get for putting this on the vegetarian/vegan page :)

Chocolate bunnies :)

I'll buy you a thousand chocolate bunnies.

You're really bad at trolling :)

no. and why on earth are you putting this on a vegitarian/vegan forum?

wow really?

No and no.What sort of a question is that to post on a vegetarian/vegan forum?

Rabbits taste almost exactly like chicken, i recommend you raise it yourself, the only bad thing that the meat is harder to cut ( not physically harder, but more difficult ).

Id rather just eat chicken because its just easier to prepare
Actually, i dont think that rabbit was high quality now that i think about it, because people claim its superb, but i thought it just tasted like chicken? may be my tastebuds are just retarded!!

Easter Dinner last year

I ate a lot of wild cottontail rabbits when I was younger and hunted a lot, and they are very good eating. The tame rabbits are not as tasty, I have eaten them but was not impressed.

Bunnies! I ate one and it tasted surprisingly delicious.

I love the taste of rabbit. I go rabbit hunting at least 5 times a year.

they taste very good my grandmother uses the meat in a stew she makes

very tasty but alot of bones, worth it though
