Why do quite a vast majority of vegans/vegetarians seem quite rude?!

Question: Why do quite a vast majority of vegans/vegetarians seem quite rude?
Please don't get me wrong on this, I'm definitely not trying to down any of you, certainly not the nice ones, it just seems that (looking at random questions and such) a lot of people answering on here seem to have very high opinions of themselves and act kind of...well, indimidating to people. 'I'm better than you because I don't eat meat' is the basic gist I get from a lot of answerers. Of course, there's a lot of kind people to balance it out but I don't understand the whole better-than-thou attitude on here because somebody has a lifestyle you don't agree with. If religion came into it it would be a different matter and it'd probably come under discrimination, like when people make fun of others for fasting at certain times of the year and not taking part in christmas and not many people would tell somebody off if their religion stated they had to eat meat, so why is it any different otherwise when people just don't want to make a change in their lifestyle because they're happy as they are?
Personally, I respect vegetarians and vegans because if you havenm't grown up with it, it CAN be a hard choice to make, one that I personally can't make because - i'm being honest - I enjoy eating meat too much. My lifestyle changes consisted of getting organic, free range meat and I try to buy locally as much as possible when concerning meat and eggs, but why do people seem to have the same idea as PETA which is basically 'If you eat meat, you don't care about animals', which is completely untrue...I do an level 3 diploma in Animal management and I certainly care about animals, I just don't care for PETA at all and I'd rather support a non-terrorist organization, but that is a completely different sack of potatoes. What I'm saying is, why do people treat you like you're thick just because you consume meat/dairy products?

Yes, we don't need it and there are alternatives, but, and this will sound like a completely illogical argument, most of us enjoy eating meat and don't want to make such a huge life change.

Answers:

Hi, I'm not going to deny that there are some people who may come across as believing they're superior because of how they chose to eat. These people do exist. But I wouldn't say it's the vast majority at all. If anything I'd say it's just a few, but it's these ones who give us all a bad name. To be honest they annoy most vegans as much as they annoy meat eaters!

I think the reason they're like this is probably because they feel so strongly that this is the right way to live, so almost by definition they feel that people who don't comply are "wrong."

PETA is the classic example of this. They are the worst group for preaching, and actually most vegans are very very against this. I seriously dislike the way they berate others. But I can see why they do it. They are convinced that this is how everyone should live, and they want to do everything they can to make this happen. It's hard to believe that they mean well but I think they probably do!

It's actually a bit illogical though, since of all the reasons I've heard for someone going vegan, I have yet to meet anyone who says "Yes, I went vegan because somebody forced their views down my throat and lectured me until I changed"!

Thank you for acknowledging we're not all like that, and I actually think that those people are in a much smaller minority than people realize, just because the vegans who aren't like that don't draw as much attention to it.

Well..I'm not rude!! =) x x

Seriously, did you not see this answer on the question you linked to;

" um is this queston supposed to give any vegans a sort of pride or something?
i am a meat eater and i frankly dont care what vegans eat or want
i dont endorse animal cruelty at all.. but wy would i find veganism threatening?
are you going to chase me with your fake protein sandwiches? "

Or this;

" no cause the meat gives us protein so we can fight the protein deprived vegetarians "

You can find examples of assholeism from every group of people. I think you should open your mind a little bit. You only think "quite a vast majority" of vegans "seem quite rude" because you only pay attention to the rude ones. It's quite clear that you tend to overlook the ones who are nice and polite.

It's the pot calling the kettle black. Do you think it's polite to make a generalization about an entire group of people over one or two bad experiences (oh, I see you say it's not ALL vegetarians, just a VAST MAJORITY, that's SO much better) and then make this accusation on the vegetarian and vegan answer page?

To answer your question, vegetarians who see "meat as murder" have to live by their principles. They can't just watch it happen and think to themselves, "to each his own," or live in silent discomfort, they feel they have to do something to prevent it, or at least SAY something. For example, if there was some sort of genocide, and someone said something like, "Oh, I visited the extermination camp and the women and children were executed 'respectfully,'" how would you respond?

Not that even (most) vegans put animals and people on the same level, but it's a comparable situation, if to a lesser degree..

A lot of meat eaters are rude. Have you seen some of the things they have said on here? Some meat eaters troll the vegetarian & vegan category and attack veganism, do you seriously expect everyone to be nice to them?

How can you care about animals when you support their torture?

Btw, the reason why i asked that question was because i have come across some meat eaters that attack veganism for no reason, there are some meat eaters that are on this category most of the time attacking veganism for no reason, its as if they feel threatened by it. The question wasnt meant to cause offence to anyone.

i also resent this question. we don't think we're better than meat eaters we think we are helping the world by not participating in slaughter. maybe you're getting this impersonation because we are always discriminated by meat eaters so we have some defensive and confidence abilities as well.

If you don't want to know, then don't ask. It's that simple.

Would you continue consuming animals if they could speak to you in human language? If your answer is no, then you need to evaluate your reasons for being conditionally compassionate. Is language the determinant criterion you use for what deserves to live and what does not? Is "conditional compassion" compassion at all?

The definition of compassion is "a deep awareness of and sympathy for another's suffering." Does compassion have any boundaries, or is it without limit?

Aside from that, though, plant-based diets (particularly organic raw-planted based ones) are the healthiest for humans. They're energy-giving, and have been known to reduce aging as well as health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and more. Part of the reason is because they're cholesterol-free, nutrient-rich, vitamin-dense, provide all amino acids (building blocks for protein), and contain digestive enzymes (which are otherwise depleted through cooking)!

If you are going by what you see on here, you're not getting the full picture. If you ask people rude questions they will give you rude answers. For every rude question asked by a vegan on here, there are 10 more asked by "meat eaters".

I liked meat too, but vegetarianism for me isn't about what I like. It's about what I am willing to give up to not be involved with the needless abuse of animals.

Vegetarians are rude because they are ENTITLED to be rude; by not eating meat,they have shown themselves to be morally and intellectually superior to those of us who do eat meat.

If they were nice to us, that would be like condoning murder.

I agree with you. A lot of the people in this section call meat eaters murderers and decide they are superior to anyone who eats meat. I find it pretty annoying when they decide meat eaters are all bad people, however their are a lot of good vegans who i respect. personally I some of the vegans should be fine with people like you and me who know where their meat comes from and try to buy good meats.
