how to not have cravings while on a vegan diet?!

Question: How to not have cravings while on a vegan diet?
im 15 yrs old 5'5'' and 135 lbs, and my goal is to start a juice fast during the 2 weeks im on winter break, but idk how long i'm going to stay on it. 2 weeks ago, i went vegetarian. last week i went vegan, and this week i'm going to go raw vegan, and next week im going to start my juice fast. i have been raw vegan before (for about a week) and it was fine, and i actually craved vegetables and fruits. but this time around, even being vegetarian for a week was really difficult. its almost christmas so i have been baking lots of cookies and cakes for family, (which contain butter and milk, which i can't eat) and its been SO tempting to eat what i was baking. its so frustratiing..i need to know how to stop these cravings so that i don't break down and just go on a binge making transitioning to a juice fast more difficult than its already going to be. also, i have done lots of research and i know it will make me a lot healthier and help me lose weight...thanks for answering!

Wow- some of these answers are absurd! It is very possible to have food addictions/cravings that have NOTHING to do with nutrition. Cheese can be addictive as can certain carby foods like cookies, chips and bread. That doesn't mean your body needs or truly wants any of these things.( It would be like telling a diabetic who has changed their diet around that they are craving the sugary, fatty foods they used to eat because their new, healthy diet is unnatural - so stupid.)

In your case, I will tell you this much: the cravings will subside with time and time only. It took me past the year mark of being vegan to stop craving or even wanting to eat pizza (I slipped up once and was so grossed out I haven't touched it again). Right now you could put a slab of the freshest cheese in front of me and I wouldn't even look at it.

My guess is that your diet may simply be too restrictive or low in calories, which is why you are afraid you might binge. Make sure to include plenty of foods in your diet and find the right balance of protein, carbs and healthy fats in order to feel full and get all the nutrients you need. I know a raw vegan diet can be very challenging so if you are going to go that route you are going to need some recipe books and lots of ingredients since fruits and veggies alone aren't going to satisfy you (you will want to add some healthy fats in there as well).

As for the baking, you might consider baking vegan goods- not only does it further support you cause (going vegan doesn't make sense if you are still using animal products) but it keeps those foods out of your house (butter/milk).

As for juice fasting, I do them every once in a while but more as a detox rather than a weight loss plan. Once you start, I think you will find strength in eating the way you want to. My advice again is to avoid non-vegan foods and remember that the cravings are natural and will most likely pass with time.

Maybe you might be going to fast, but if this works for you, keep going. A strong will can win against everything, but I can tell you a technique that works for me. The unhealthy food we eat sometimes has to do much more with emotional wants or habit. If you're craving a chocolate cake, think what you love about it, For example:
-Chocolate cake: spongy, melts in my mouth, makes me feel comfortable and childish.
And also, find substitutes for the desserts or food you're making in raw websites and eat all the fruit you can handle.
Keep on going, you make an inspiration for many of us.

Exsft: That doesn't make sense. We have cravings for fast food, greasy things, sugary things, and those things make the organism decay.

Hi, to not have cravings while on a vegan diet requires work on our part to get our vitamins and nutrients from a well-rounded variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains. Don't be afraid to experiment with the food and in discovering new things about veggies, you'll forget about vegetarian and meat items.
I personally believe that meat cravings have to do with a vitamin need rather than the actual animal product itself. It also has to do with sentimentality reasons and as humans it's hard to emotionally detach from tradition sometimes, especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Vegan

Well I am a vegetarian and have been so for some time. I don't believe in being a vegan since chickens will always lay eggs and cows will die if they are not milked. I agree that most chickens and cows live in horrible conditions. I only buy from family owned farms where I visit and make sure the cows and chickens are outside and can wonder around and are in warm beds by night :D

If you have the perfect human diet asvegans claim they do, you wold not have cravings of foods, neither for nutrition nor taste, that are not "allowed" under the "vegan rules" that do not really exist to begin with. Which leads me to believe, the vegan diet isn't that "correct" after all

just eat what you want, don't torture yourself by not eating what you want. these cravings are signs that's its not natural to be vegan, follow your instincts, like nature intended
