I have a silk skirt, but I'm vegan? (Please read)?!

Question: I have a silk skirt, but I'm vegan? (Please read)?
I just became vegan, and I have been slowly getting rid of any wool or silk items that I own (I don't own any leather or fur). However, today I saw the tag of my favorite skirt for the first time and was shocked. It's a rayon/silk blend. I bought the skirt years ago from a street clothing stand and never checked the label because it looks and feels nothing like silk. So now I don't know what to do. On the one hand I feel bad for even considering to keep the skirt, but on the other I can't let it go! Suggestions? Thank you!

When I was a baby, my grandmother made me a pillowcase and a quilt, and I strongly suspect that they may both have some silk on them. I can't know for sure because there is no label (since she made them by hand) and she's gone a bit senile and probably wouldn't remember. The quilt has long since been stored away, but I still use the pillowcase every night. Even if it is made of silk, it would break both my and her heart if I didn't use it. If you got it before you went vegan and you really can't bring yourself to part with it, don't.

since you already bought it, and you aren't doing any more harm to the animals, I would say either keep it or give it away to Good Will so that someone else won't buy a new one. The damage is already done, so it isn't going to hurt anything if you already own it, you know what I mean?

Going vegan doesn't mean you have to quickly throw out your entire wardrobe and buy a new one. That would be a huge waste of money.
Just use the skirt until it's no good anymore, and when you go out to buy new clothes, make sure they're vegan. You bought it years before you became vegan. It's not like you went and bought it (as a vegan) and didn't care what it was made from.

Confused here. You will drive/ride in a car with animal byproducts in the tires on roads with them, probably own books with animal glues in the bindings....but claim to be highly stressed at the idea of either wearing a silk skirt or not being able to wear a silk skirt (excuse me, one that contains silk). Do you not see how silly that is? Either you give up animal products or you don't. And obviously you have NOT given them up.

BTW, I seriously doubt that you know ALL the things you use every day that contain animal byproducts: "Staggering List Of Products Made From Cattle"

The general guideline in this situation is that it is okay to continue to wear non-vegan clothing items that you had before going vegan until they wear out. Just don't buy any more non-vegan clothing items..

it's a skirt, live a little! keep it

Vegans dont wear silk.

Forgive my ignorance but I'm not aware that veganism refers to anything but what you eat. Are you an animal rights advocate? I don't want to offend you but maybe you're worring for nothing. Talk to another Vegan.

if u already own it dont throw it away duh
the worms already made the shirt haha k

vegan

Stop being vegan.
