Will I get fat from eating bread, beans, rice and water?!

Question: Will I get fat from eating bread, beans, rice and water?
I am a broke vegetarian again and so I have to find some food to eat in the morning and throughout the day.
I figure if I buy white bread I can have plain toast in the morning and water for breakfast
and then I will eat the beans and rice for lunch and dinner just until I getm ore money in next week.

Answers:

No, water has zero calories.

Rice, beans, and bread are low fat.

Even if you are low on money, there is no reason for you to have to live off of that.

-Top Ramen Oriental flavored soups are very cheap and are vegetarian. You can buy 3-5 packs for $1 dollar. Make sure the label says Top Ramen, though. There's a similar brand that has the exact same colored package and is made with beef stock.
-You can buy a block of tofu for $2 at an Asian Market. You can use this to make scrambled tofu and BBQ tofu.
-You can buy a pack of spaghetti with tomato sauce for $3. Look for the generic brands at your local supermarket.

Good luck

Actually you WILL get fat from eating white bread, white rice, white pasta.

The white flour carbs are not good for you at all. They are processed by your body straightaway into sugar which will give you a few minutes of energy, but then the body stores that sugar right away into fat.

ALL carbs are stored as fat - so it is a good idea to not eat too many carbs. The beans are an excellent source of protein - so they would be good.

I suggest whole wheat bread - whole wheat pasta, and brown rice, as well as sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes.

They are still carbs, but there is a lot more nutrition in the brown varieties because of the whole grains and whole rice grains than there is in the processed white grains.

That is a lot of fibre and little nutrients. Try to get a few veggies. They are really cheap; some exotic fruits and things out of season get a bit more pricey, but carrots, celery, broccoli, etc. are all inexpensive and healthy. Frozen veggies are also a good choice and can be inexpensive (eg. peas, spinach). Skip the beans, and get a good rice and veggies for stirfrys. Also get whole wheat bread or oatmeal instead of white bread.

There are even more cheap foods you can eat, even as a vegetarian, than just beans, rice, and bread. Check out all the info about eating cheap, as well as a long list of cheap foods, in my answer to this previous question to see lots of possibilities:

And btw, if you eat only "white* bread or white rice, you won't be getting as many vitamins, minerals, and fiber from them as you would from "whole grain" bread or rice. Both whole-grain bread and rice, and also beans, do have a fair amount of vits/minerals in them though, as well as sufficient calories --but they will get really-really boring if you don't add other things to those, or eat other cheap-but-nutritious foods too.

As for "getting fat," you're unlikely to get too many calories from just those foods...but of course, if you eat a loaf of bread per day, or huge amounts of anything, you'll be eating enough calories to put on weight.

It's not about what you eat, it's about how many calories you eat. The smallest amount of calories you require is about 1,200. Anything less than that is too low and can actually be dangerous over time. I still lose weight when I eat 1,400 calories a day. I'm currently on a diet, though. If you're looking to maintain your weight you should try and be closer to 2,000.

How about cereal and soymilk for breakfast? Or a fruit? I mean, if you're just eating white bread for a week, then you probably won't gain any weight. Beans and rice are good for you, although, brown rice IS better. Try quinoa if you can find it in the store. It's like rice sort of.

haha sounds like me a few months ago. except i worried about nutrition more (im 95 lbs and 20 years old...) no you won't get fat, but you won't have enough nutrition. you need to get a wider spectrum of veggies and fruits :(

If it's just for a week and you're generally active, you should be fine in terms of weight. That diet, however, is very limited in vitamins and minerals, so take a multivitamin if you can.

That's not enough food to gain weight from. You will probably lose weight.
